Kathryn “Kathy” Baker died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Harker Heights Texas on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at the age of 70. Kathy is survived by her children, Susan Terry of Tacoma WA, Christy Whitaker of Roggen CO, Linda Ann Frost of Ashland City TN and grandchildren Aislinn and Ronan Terry, Mindy and Joshua Madl, and John Frost. She was preceded in death by her husband COL (Ret) Sidney “Skip” Baker Jr, son John Baker, and grandchildren Abbi and Jacob Frost. Kathy was born on June 14, 1951 in Frederick OK. She graduated from high school in 1969. She married Skip in Basel Switzerland while serving on active duty as a nurse in the US Army on January 16, 1979. After returning to the States, Kathy began life as an Army Wife. Over the next 33 years the couple lived in wedded bliss, Kathy weathering deployment after deployment with unequalled strength and grace. Her children and grandchildren remember her as a beautiful example of what a strong, family-oriented woman should be. She was both kind and gentle, with plenty of spunk to spare! Throughout her life, Kathy became accomplished at many different skills, from interior decorating to bookkeeping, cosmetology to nursing. Most importantly however, she was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother who loved her family unconditionally and placed them before all else in her life. A viewing is scheduled for Sunday, July 18th beginning at 11:00 am at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen TX, with the funeral immediately following at 1:00 pm; a reception will be hosted at the Baker family home in Harker Heights TX upon conclusion of services. Internment with full military honors will take place the following morning at noon at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kathy’s life.
