SFC (Ret) Kenneth C. Ashley Sr.

Funeral services for SFC (Ret) Kenneth C. Ashley, Sr., 71, of Killeen, will be 10 am Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Killeen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Ashley passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 24th at the Veterans Hospital in Temple.

Kenneth was born in 1943 in Franklin, Georgia to Dorsey and Elsie (Houston) Ashley. He lived most of his life in Killeen.

Kenneth served in the US Army and retired after 20 years. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War with two tours where he earned several medals. A Purple Heart, 2 Bronze Stars and an Army Commendation medal are among the awards he received.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Melba, of 51 years; his parents, and a sister, Deretha.

Kenneth is survived by a brother, Major Ashley of AL; sisters, Shirley Cline and Marie Cotney of GA; his children, Kenneth Jr and Crystal Ashley of TX; Angie and Gordon Gaynor of WA; Gena and Todd Maxon of TX; and Patrick and Yvette Ashley of TX; six grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews. He will be truly missed.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home.
