

Kenneth Roy Speer, 83, passed away September 30, 2016 in Fletcher, Oklahoma. He was born August 18, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Burbank High School, University of Corpus Christi, BS, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, BD, Texas Wesleyan University, M.Ed., and Baylor University, Ed.D. He married Grace Ailene Reddick Speer, on September 6, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Speer retired as a LTC, Chaplain, from the US Army in 1976. He was previously enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was also a veteran of the Vietnam War. Following military retirement he taught psychology at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor. He also worked as psychologist for the Killeen Independent School District. He pastored the Patton Heights Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Freer, and First Baptist Church of Nolanville, Texas. His military awards include: The Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, American Defense Medal, Presidential Commendation Medal, Congressional Unit Citation, and the Legion of Merit.
He was predeceased by his parents, Coleman and Sybil Speer; sister, Marinel Alexander and sister-in-law, Norma Reddick. Survivors are daughter,Sharon Barnes and husband Jim, SFC (Ret) of Texarkana, TX, son, Dr. Kelly Speer, and wife Debra of Killeen, TX, and daughter ,Janet Chappell and husband Troy, Col. (Ret) of Fletcher, OK.; brother, Robert Speer and wife Inez of FL., sister, Peggy Dowlearn and husband Jay of San Antonio, brother, Michael Speer and wife Vivian of San Antonio, and brother-in-law, Victor Reddick of Houston, thirteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2016 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home. Interment at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
