

Lester Odell Grandberry passed away Sunday, January 24. Visitation will be from 3 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, January 31. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. His home going celebration will be on Monday, February 1, 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Harker Heights with Dr. Edward Wagner officiating. Interment will be 1 p.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
Mr. Grandberry was born on February 26, 1932 in Waco, Texas. . He joined the Army at an early age of 17 where he had numerus tours in which most notably he served in the Korean War and deployed to South Florida in Support of the of the Cuban Missile Crisis. After more than 21 years of distinguished and dedicated service in the military, he retired in April 1972 as Sergeant First Class. He graduated from TSTI with a Certificate of Completion in Meat Processing and Marketing and soon started his civil service career as a meat cutter at the main Ft. Hood Commissary; retiring after 20 years of federal service.
Lester was preceded in death by his wife Jimmie Lee, his parents Joseph and Fannie Mae Grandberry, his brothers Robert Smith, Joseph Grandberry, and Clarence Grandberry and his two sisters Minnie Woodard and Mercy Christopher.
Survivors include his four loving children: Kenneth Grandberry, Celeste (Kenneth) Green, Anthony (Sue) Grandberry, and Pamela (Tim) Lauterbach, his brother: Rev. Jewel Grandberry; seven Grandchildren: Ayanna Jarrett, LaRaye Sullivan, Kendra Grandberry-Hill, Danielle Irvin-Anderson, Cherelle Irvin, Amy Grandberry and James Grandberry , nine Great-Grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
