

She was born March 27, 1922 at Kings Daughters Hospital in Temple, Texas to Ignac Kahanek and Frances Nemec who lived in Granger. Lillian was the 6th of eight children, which included four brothers and three sisters. She married Jerome Frank Schwertner from Jarrell, Texas in 1946. Lillian and Jerome lived at Camp Hood after WW II where he worked and where they started their family of seven boys. Jerry was born in 1947; Len in 1948; Bernie in 1949; twins, Dan and Darwin in 1953; Jimmy in 1955; and, Raymond in 1957. In 1996 they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Jerome passed away in 1999. Lillian was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, and gardener. She was a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the KJZT, and St. Joseph Ladies Altar Sodality, in Killeen.
Lillian was proceeded in death by her husband, Jerome; her parents; three brothers, Joseph, Frank, and Andrew Kahanek; and three sisters, Frances and Mary Marak, and Angeline Klepac.
She is survived by one brother, Louis Kahanek of Waco, Texas and her seven sons and their families: Jerry and Laura of Arlington, Texas; Len and Laura, of Killeen; Bernie and Kathy of Killeen; Dan and Martha of San Antonio; Darwin and Consuelo of Aberdeen, Maryland; Jimmy of Killeen; Raymond and Kay Lynn of Killeen; 16 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at 6:00 pm followed by the recitation of the rosary at 7:00 pm. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Corn Hill, Texas followed by interment in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
