Linda Faye Foster passed away peacefully at her home in Killeen last week, in the early morning hours of June 27, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born Linda Faye Vahrenkamp on February 10, 1948, at King's Daughters Hospital in Temple to loving parents Ethel Barrington and Adolph Vahrenkamp.
Linda grew up on a 226-acre farm in what was once well outside the city limits of Killeen, running along Old Copperas Cove Road to the intersection of Clear Creek. She was a third-generation Texan and a lifelong resident of Bell County & Central Texas.
Although she grew up as an only child, Linda’s childhood was far from lonely. One of the great joys of her life was her extended family, both sides of which first settled in the Killeen area beginning in the late 1800s both from Germany and from across the United States. Linda herself is counted among over 35 first cousins, many of whom are alive and remain active in Central Texas and its surrounding areas.
Linda attended school at West Ward Elementary and Nolan Junior High before graduating from Killeen High School in 1966. She earned a BBA from Southwest Texas State University in 1970, where she was a member of the Iota Alpha chapter of Delta Zeta Sorority. She briefly taught Business and English classes at Nolan Middle School before dedicating herself to her family and business ventures.
Linda was also active in local business and civic communities. She and her husband, Jim, were lifelong partners in the franchise motorcycle business. Together, they operated several successful dealerships, including Temple Suzuki-Kawasaki, Killeen Power Sports, and currently, Indian Motorcycle of Bell County. She was also a lifelong member of the Killeen Church of Christ on WS Young Drive in Killeen, where she formed many cherished friendships over the years. Among her many civic commitments was her longtime membership in the Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority, where she was known for her dedication and service.
She was preceded not only in death but also in birth by a brother, also named Adolph Vahrenkamp, who died in infancy in 1936.
Linda was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, James David Foster, and their two sons: John David Foster of Temple, and Jared Michael Foster of Killeen. John is married to Jennifer, and they have two sons, Evan David Foster (13) and Logan James Foster (11). Jared is married to Lenna, and they have two daughters, Pearl Mae Foster (8) and Tulip Rey Foster (6).
Linda's legacy of love, dedication, and community service will be remembered, and sorely missed, by all who knew her.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Foster will be held at the Church of Christ at 400 N W S Young Drive in Killeen, on the morning of Wednesday July 3 at 10 o’clock.
A Visitation for Linda and her family will be held at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen on the preceding evening, Tuesday, July 2, from 6 to 8 in the evening.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cherokee Home for Children Cherokee, Texas, in Linda's memory.
