Maria was a homemaker but devoted much of her time serving the community at the VFW where she was a member for fifty-five years. She held the title of President eight times for the Harker Heights VFW Post 3892 Auxiliary along with numerous other positions. Throughout her years of service, she touched many lives.
Maria loved her family more than anything. Most conversations people had with her included her bragging about her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her Sundays were reserved for family time and of course watching the Cowboys during football season. Sitting on the porch to soak up the sun and calling to talk about the weather were some of her favorite pastimes. She was always happy to make everyone’s favorite dishes, German potato salad and pink fruit salad, for any holiday or special occasion. There is nothing she wouldn’t do to make her friends and family happy.
Maria will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by husband Dewey Spann and daughter Nancy Spann.
She is survived by son Larry James Spann and his wife Marie Spann; son William Henry Spann and his wife Vickie Spann; six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen at 10 am on Thursday, March 28, 2024 and the funeral services will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Harker Heights VFW Post 3892 Auxiliary in memory of Maria.
