

Mrs. Tapia died Thursday, June 16, 2011 at her home in Killeen, TX. She was born January 12, 1936 in Arroyo, PR. She was a laboratory technician for 4 years. Maria was a Nun for 20 years at the Convent of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Caguas, PR. Afterwards Maria married her late husband Luis C. Tapia of Carolina, Puerto Rico. Maria enjoyed serving others through many ministries of the church. She volunteered a lot of her time in helping others within the Hispanic community. Her family attributes the quality of life she lived while battling cancer to the strong support she received from her church family and Hispanic community. Maria lived with cancer for over 5 years and was an inspiration to others. She always smiled and gave love to others around her and was a firm believer in her faith.
She is preceded in death by her father Alejandro Ramos-Curet, and her sister Carmelina Curet-DeVarie. Maria is survived by her mother, Luisa Maria Devarie-Sanchez of Arroyo Puerto Rico, her son Luis Carlos Tapia Jr. of Plano; her two daughters, Lurene Marie Tapia of Killeen and Rochelle Sierra of San Juan P.R. She left behind one brother, Carmelo Ramos-Devarie of Winterhaven, FL, and one sister Luisa Maria Curet-Devarie of Arroyo P.R.
