Mary Ellen Franchuk

Mary Ellen Franchuk, 76, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 19th in Killeen, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 am Thursday, August 10th, 2023 at Crawford Bowers Chapel with inurnment to follow in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Mary Ellen was born August 4, 1946 in Dickinson, North Dakota to Leo and Leona Broadman. She married George R. Franchuk on August 20th, 1963 in the small town of Belfield, North Dakota. Mary was a business owner of George’s Body Shop and for many years, worked in nursing homes as an Environmental Services Manager. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Killeen and enjoyed the friendships from her Bible Study group.

Not only will she be remembered for her smile, but she will always be remembered for her baking. She had such enthusiasm for trying new recipes and sharing the treats with others. She was able to enjoy baking up until she went to join George in heaven. Mary also had a fun and competitive spirit. She attended as many events as possible, of her children and her grandchildren, cheering throughout the entire event. She had such a love for animals and treated them as part of the family.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband George Franchuk, her brothers, David Brodman, Arnie Brodman, Donald Brodman and her sisters Patricia Keifer and Loretta Brodman.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Neil (Tracy) Franchuk , her grandson, Christian Franchuk of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; her daughter Shannon (Charles) Sondgeroth of Killeen, Texas; her granddaughters Alexis (Andrew) Barnes and great granddaughter Chloe; Andrea (Corey) Friesz and great granddaughter Lorelei; Rebecca Sondgeroth; Rachel (Siddhanth) Paralkar; her sister Louise (David) Gustafson; her brothers Joseph Brodman and Jim Brodman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the compassionate staff of Killeen Nursing and Rehabilitation and Compassus Hospice for the wonderful and comforting care they provided.
