

Mickie Kay Schroeder, 61 passed away on Friday, November 11, 2011 at Scott and White hospital, after a sudden infection. Visitation will be held Monday November 14, 2011 from 6:30-8:00pm at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10am Tuesday November 15, 2011 at Crawford-Bowers in Killeen, with the Reverend Jack Husung officiating. Burial will follow at Killeen City Cemetery.
Mickie Kay was born January 31, 1950, in Killeen, Texas to Milton W. Noema Schroeder. She learned her business skills at an early age working behind the counter on a milk crate at her parent’s grocery store. After graduation from Killeen High School in 1968, she earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Mary Hardin Baylor. Mickie Kay taught elementary school with Killeen Independent School District at West Ward. After retiring from teaching Mickie Kay earned her realtor’s license and established Mickey’s Rentals. She spent the last twenty-five years selling real estate and managing rental properties. Mickie Kay was known by tenants as being fair and reasonable; but, they were expected to follow the rules.
Relating to children was one of Mickie Kay’s gifts and she happily spoiled her great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. She taught them all how to ride horses. Her giving spirit touched many lives throughout her life.
In addition to family time, Mickie Kay enjoyed traveling and horseback riding. She felt that jumping on horseback was the greatest thrill she had ever known. Mickie Kay’s love of animals prompted her to adopt many dogs, cats and horses over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Milton and Noema. She is survived by her two brothers; Thomas Schroeder and his wife Janet, of Killeen, Texas, and David Schroeder and his wife Jutta of Graz, Austria, two nieces Karen Schroeder Walinder and her husband Jim of Killeen, and Debra Schroeder Spaulding and her husband Brian of San Marino, California’ great-nieces Lindsey Walinder, Natalie Spaulding, and Allison Walinder, great-nephews Zachary Spaulding and Reid Walinder and her cousin Jane Levy Christie and family.
Memorial donations may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter.
