Namat Saab Waheed

Loving and energetic mother, wife, friend, teacher, and favorite Aunt, Namat Saab Waheed, 91, of Killeen, Texas died in Harker Heights on October 24,2024. She was born in Choueifat, Lebanon in 1932 to Niam and Afifi Saab.

Namat met and married Kamal Waheed in 1954 in Choueifat. They moved to Munday, Texas. Needless to say, those first few months in the small Texas town was eye-opening. She and her husband worked together in businesses in Killeen. They owned the Elite Café and Kay’s Furniture Store for a number of years. She loved and enjoyed children, big and small. Having taught early childhood prior to her marriage, she became a long-term Substitute for Killeen ISD for many years.

She was active in her church, First United Methodist Church Killeen, as well as the Mary Ruth Circle within the church. She was very proud of her work as a “fried pie maker”; She was known as the “Dough Yoda”. She was the best. She also enjoyed her time with the Seed and Weed Garden Club and her quilting and various sewing groups. She was a member of the Killeen Eastern Star, and mentored the Rainbow Girls.

Namat was most at home in her garden. She would spend countless hours there tending her plants and reading her Bible study. In addition to gardening, she used her talents sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, quilting and painting. She did beautiful work.

Namat was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 5 of her 6 brothers and sisters. Continuing to honor her legacy are her daughters, Veda Kay Waheed of Harker Heights, Leah Carmen Waheed of Austin, Texas, her sister, Hickmat Saab of Choueifat, Lebanon, and numerous nieces and nephews. All loved and enjoyed and learned from her each day we knew her.

Visitation will be at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen on October 28th from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Killeen on October 29th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Killeen Memorial Park. Memorials can be given to the First United Methodist Church.
