I found Col. Gauer's obituary in my home town(Silver City, NM) newspaper. I knew the Gauer family at Ft. Hood. I was the chemistry teacher at Ellison High School. Joe Gauer was one of my most brilliant students. I remember Joe inviting me to his Eagle Scout ceremony. I was already in Monterey, CA because my husband was assigned to DLI. I called Joe to thank him for the invitation. I am sorry to find out that Joe is deceased. I think of him quite often, even after all of these years. I spoke with Col. Gauer on several occasions. He was a great man. My condolences on the loss of Col. Gauer. Sincerely, Debbie Robinson Pienezza

Mary and family:

Ralph was one of the first people I met when I started at the Telegram. I appreciated the kindness that he showed to a newcomer from the Midwest.

It was clear from the beginning that he was a wonderful person, dedicated to his family, his community and his country. He was a public servant in the truest sense of the phrase.

Cindy and I always enjoyed our time with you and Ralph at the UMHB Crusader football games. We looked forward to seeing you as much as we looked forward to the game.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Kindest regards,

Don and Cindy Cooper
