Bob was born in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, to Levi and Hazel Guinther. Although he was born in Wisconsin, he spent much of his childhood growing up in San Francisco, California. At a young age, he chose to serve his country by joining the United States Army. Through dedication and hard work, he built a distinguished 27-year military career as a Food Service Specialist.
Bob proudly served during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of numerous awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star, recognizing his courage and dedication. His time in the Army reflected the values that defined his life—loyalty, commitment, and service to others especially family and friends.
After retiring from the military, Bob continued serving his community as a school bus driver for the Killeen Independent School District. For many years he safely transported countless students, becoming a familiar and trusted face to families throughout the community before retiring in 2006.
Bob had a passion for life and the people around him. One of his greatest joys was bowling. As a devoted bowler and youth coach, he spent many years teaching and mentoring bowlers of all ages, sharing both his skills and his love for the game. Bob also used his expertise to successfully help manage many bowling centers, using his joyful personality and connections to grow the industry. His dedication made him a well-known and respected figure in the Killeen bowling community.
Another passion of Bob's was playing cards, especially Texas Hold’em. His skill and determination led him to win two tournaments, earning him the opportunity to compete in the prestigious World Series of Poker in Las Vegas on two separate occasions.
Those who knew Bob will remember him most for his kindness and generosity. He was the type of person who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. Whether among fellow soldiers, friends at the bowling alley, neighbors, or family members, Bob was always willing to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer encouragement.
Above all else, Bob loved his family. He shared 63 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Hilde Guinther. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories while raising their three children—two sons and one daughter. His family continued to grow with seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
