

Funeral services for CSM (Ret) Robert J. McGuire 70 of Killeen will be on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 12:30 PM at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen with Pastor Joe Daggs and Chalpain Rodney Kruese officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Mr. McGuire passed away on May 15, 2010 at a Temple hospital.
He was born on July 12, 1939 to John and Dorothy McGuire in Floral Park, New York. He was reared and educated in Tampa, FL, where he graduated from high school. He also attended Central Texas College . He joined the Army in 1958 and served for 30 years retiring in 1988 at the rank of CSM> he earned the following medals and ribbons: Legion of Merit///Defense Meritorious Service Medal///Meritorious Service Medal///Army Commendation Medal w/1 Oak leaf cluster//Army Achievement Medal///Good conduct Medal w/silver, 4 loops///National Defense Service Medal//Viet man Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars//NCO Professional Development Ribbon Numeral 5///Army Service Ribbon///Overseas Service Ribbon Numeral 4///Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal//Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation Badge with palm. After retiring he worked for Red Barn Nursery as a licensed nurseryman.
He was member of the following organizations: Community Emergency Response Team, Southwest Bell County Fire Department, Life member of VFW Post 3892, American Legion, former member Harker Heights TASA and the Retired Sergeants Majors Association.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister Alice Lacy. Survivors include his wife Martha. Son Mike McGuire and Barbara of Harker Heights, daughters Patty Boaz of Chandler, Cindy Kuehn and husband Rodney of Calgary, Canada, Penny Chasse and husband Lyle of Galion, Ohio, Karen Herring and husband Andrew of Albuquerque, NM and Beth McLaughlin and husband Harold of Hewett, TX. Also surviving are his brother Terrence McGuire and sisters Geraldine Brazil and husband Donald of Tampa, FL and Dorothy Snow of Wadley, AL, 21 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephew, friend, neighbors and special pet Zoey.
The family requests memorial be made to the Southwest Bell County Fire Department PO Box 10792 Killeen, Texas 76547. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Remembrances can be shared at www.crawfordbowersfuneralhome.com.
