Sallie Estes, age 86, of Harker Heights, Texas passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at her home with her loving family by her side. Sallie was born October 18, 1937, in Roaring Springs, Texas to Elmer and Ruby Elliott Hipp.
Sallie married Robert Benjamin Estes on August 25, 1957, in Goree, Texas. Together, they had three beautiful children and one beloved granddaughter.
Sallie became a Christian at an early age, and she and Bob were the first missionaries to the Sioux Tribal Nation in South Dakota. Her commitment to Christianity and charities remained strong until the end.
Sallie’s professional career started in banking, and she advanced to her most important role; a fiercely dedicated army officer’s wife. Her journey of love and support took her throughout the United States and abroad to Germany. Their travels included family trips to Italy, England, France, The Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland.
She was an active member and former Officer of The Wednesday Review Club in Killeen, Texas. A club that provided support to literacy causes in the community including library projects, scholarship donations, families in crisis, shelters, and beyond.
Sallie was an avid reader and a queen at Words with Friends. She enjoyed cruising, traveling, cooking/baking, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Sallie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Charles and Billy Hipp and her daughter, Traci Elaine Estes on November 25, 2000.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert Estes of Harker Heights, two sons, Scott (Tamara) Estes of Tampa, Florida, and Gary Estes of Lubbock; and a beloved granddaughter, Katie Campbell.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 South Fort Hood Road, Killeen, Texas.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 9:00 to 10:00am at Trinity Baptist Church, 403 E FM 2410 Rd, Harker Heights, Texas.
The burial will follow her services at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, Texas at 11:00am.
