Betty Jean Koons Clem, age 97, passed away on December 16, 2025. Born at home in Gage, Oklahoma to Charles and Eliza Gibson Koons on April 4, 1928, she was the youngest of 6 children. On May 23, 1946 she eloped with the love of her life, Calvin Clem. Shortly afterwards, they moved to Seattle but returned to Oklahoma where they farmed until the early 1950’s, and eventually moved to Deer Park, Tx. In 1989 Betty and Calvin moved to Onalaska, Tx, where they enjoyed retirement, participating in square dance activities and traveling with their camper.
Betty’s steadfast love of her children and grandchildren was evident. She was such a sweet soul and always said the secret to her long life was the hard work she endured growing up on a farm. Being raised during the Great Depression and the OK dust bowls of the 1930’s, her 5’2” stature never hindered her determination and resilience. Her kindness was appreciated by all. With every job she held, she completed it with dedication and commitment.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Calvin Clem, son Kendal Clem, son Jerry Clem and grandson Cory Clem. Survivors include: daughter Loweta (Stan) Jorgensen, daughter-in-law Rita Clem, daughter-in-law Debbe Clem Allen, grandchildren Terran (Shane) Reller, Carrie (Vince) Cutaia, Lindsay (Rusty) Terry, Kristen (Hugo) Saldana, Ryan (Courtney) Jorgensen and 10 great grandchildren.
