Elmer Daniel Spurgeon, affectionately known as "Pappy," passed away on May 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of grit, generosity, and love that will forever echo through the lives he touched. Born in Leesville, Louisiana, Elmer was a man who built a life around hard work, unwavering values, and a deep devotion to his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Blanche Evelyn Spurgeon; his children, Daniel and his wife Amber Spurgeon, and Ronald and his wife Kim Frost. His pride and joy were his grandchildren: Kyelar “Junior” Spurgeon, Kimberly “Peewee” Spurgeon, and Colton “Booboo” Spurgeon. He is also survived by his brother Jerry and sister-in-law Jenni Spurgeon.
Elmer was a master of his craft, spending his professional life as a skilled oil field machinist and welder. Beyond his trade, he was a man of many talents. He restored numerous classic vehicles with precision and pride, including a ’66 Mustang, a ’64 Falcon, a ’60 F100, and multiple generations of F150s. Perhaps most emblematic of his spirit was the shop he built and worked in daily—a place of creation, innovation, and honest labor.
A true jack of all trades, Elmer's hands were never idle. His hobbies spanned leatherworking, blacksmithing, beekeeping, gardening, animal husbandry, fishing, and racing RC cars. He had a special passion for architectural landscaping and took immense pride in maintaining his property—his sanctuary and canvas.
Those who knew Elmer knew a man with a personality like no other. He was a natural prankster, always ready with a joke or a well-timed tease. Known for being "tough as an old leather boot," he lived by a simple, unshakable principle: honesty. He didn’t sugarcoat his words, and his handshake meant something. Friends and neighbors could count on him—not only for a helping hand, but for the shirt off his back.
Elmer had a sharp eye for a deal and an unmatched talent for horse trading, always finding a way to get what he needed while helping someone else in the process. He valued relationships more than riches, and his quiet wisdom was often found in the simplest acts of kindness.
Above all, Elmer loved his family. His grandkids were the light of his life, and he took every opportunity to share his knowledge, stories, and laughter with them. His home was a gathering place, his life a compass, and his legacy a roadmap of what it means to be authentic, hardworking, and fiercely loyal.
Elmer Daniel Spurgeon was a one-of-a-kind soul, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
