He was an amazing one of a kind person. His intelligence has benefited an abundance of people. His meaningful smile is unsurpassed. His genuine laughter is encouraging and always appropriate. He has been an unsurpassed mentor and Dad to me since 1971. He has made his family foremost in his life and still able to handle the most difficult situations in the demanding professional field he was in. He has blessed my life always and even now still does. He shall be greatly missed but kept close to my heart. His memory is one to inspire in us to be the best human being we can be to all we come in contact with.

      MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR UNCLE.

INTRODUCTION:  Thank you for coming.  The very fact that you are here is a testimony to the character of Monty; as well as to your esteem, appreciation, respect, and love that you had for him.

This is going to be difficult for me.  Monty was not just an uncle to me, he was my very, very dear friend.  I held him in the highest honor and esteem.  As all of you know he is a man that is easy to talk to, he is a great listener, and a warm and generous confidant.  I didn’t make a mistake in the tense I just used.  I used the present tense on purpose; because I believe he is very much with us today.

 Think about it?  If Monty was across town, say in his home, would we speak of him in the past tense, like “he WAS a great fellow”?  No.  Why?  Because, although not physically with us, he is nevertheless still with us. So, my friend, Monty is just in another location.

I.  Monty’s Moves.

 A.  Monty found in high school a beautiful and charming and affectionate girl whom he deeply loved.  He would marry this girl and they spent 43 wonderful years together.  Aunt Jackie preceded Monty in 1992.

  But to show you how strong the bond of their marriage was on their wedding night, at the place where they were to spend their first night together, Jackie went into the bathroom to prepare herself, just like any bride would do on their first wedding night.  Monty was in the room, probably sitting there with his heart pounding and full of anticipation for his bride, preparing himself, just like any other bridegroom on his first wedding night.

 When Monty gets up to walk across the floor to lower the covers on the wedding bed, he steps on the floor furnace grate.  For you younger people, back in the black and white TV days, the furnace was located in the floor.  As a result the grates could, and often did, become extremely hot.

  
    Needless to say, the honeymooner’s first night of bliss would have to be postponed while Aunt Jackie attended to her eager but suffering husband.  They managed to survive the “first calamity” of their marriage together.  As a result of their determination and resolution they parented five beautiful children.  Only one is not with us today; Gary Don, who went to sleep in 1959 to await his Mother and Father.

  Through their married years Monty worked his way up through the grocery industry.  He starts as a sacker.  He wasn’t given anything.  He didn’t inherit a business.  He worked long hours and did it by hard labor.  Many nights and days Aunt Jackie was left to take care of the children by herself.
  When Dad was home it was quality time.  Fun and always playing with the children.

  Monty was an achiever.  He never, never was satisfied with mediocrity.  Either in himself, his children, or anyone else.  Because of this trait, he was constantly on the move across the country.  From company to company, state to state, industry to industry.

  Dragging behind him was his beautiful, supportive companion and the loving children.

  Debbie told me that they moved so often that when they did settle down long enough to make friends in school, the friends wanted to know if their Dad was in the military.  Only the military moves that often.  But Monty made those moves an adventure for the children.

  Monty was often asked how that Jackie and he found the time to have children; what with all the moving around the country that they did.

  To make matters even more mysterious and suspicious is the fact that he left grown children in Buffalo, Long Island, Baltimore, and Texas along the way!

  I guess the answer to that question will have to remain unanswered until we see Jackie and Monty shortly.

  I don’t have to stand here and try to convince you what a great guy Monty is.  I don’t have to tell you what a visionary, creator, and an innovator he is.

  Quite a few of you sitting here today have had the privilege and the opportunity of finding that out first hand.

  Monty relished the challenges you presented him, but more, much more than that, he cherished your friendship.  He would often speak about each of you with the greatest admiration, tenderness, pride, and love that is usually reserved only for family members.

  But I assure you that is how Monty thought of you; as members of his extended family.

  He would talk incessantly about Steve, Scott, Dean, and Jim; as well as others.

  Monty counted it a privilege and an honor to have been able to work alongside such fine gentlemen, but even more than this, to have been able to consider each of you his closest personal friends.

  While we are on the subject of friends, I would certainly be remiss if I failed to recognize how much the “spit and whittle boys” meant to Monty.  That’s the name I gave to his group whom he met down at the Humble Inn for breakfast every Wednesday and Sunday mornings.

  This group, you guys, meant so much to Monty.  Out of this group came a strong fellowship, a bond that Monty was very proud of and cherished.

  Four of these gentlemen are honorary pallbearers today.

  Another group Monty enjoyed meeting with was the group I call the “girl watchers group”:  He would meet with this group at Denny’s on Thursday morning for breakfast.  Again, the association with these fine gentlemen, in all of these groups, further illustrates the friendliness and genuine love Monty felt for his friends.  Truly, your friendship meant so very much to Monty.

  Monty is the most outgoing, gregarious man I have ever met.  He simply would not allow anyone to remain a stranger.

  Even little children in his neighborhood called him Papaw.  They probably still don’t know his real NAME.  He will always be Papaw to them.

  With such a remarkable personality, the magnetism it generated, is it any wonder that, although his children vowed never to follow their Dad in the grocery business that is exactly what each of them did.

  1.  George worked many years in the grocery business.

  2.  Lori started out with Pepsi, moved to Maybelline, and is now with Cody.   All products that are found and sold in grocery chains.

  3.  Debbie spent 20 years with Kraft Foods.

  4.  Greg spent time with McClain Wholesalers Hotel and 
Restaurant Food division in Rochester, New York.

  Such was the imprint and influence Monty exerted upon each of them.

II:  SLEEP

  You probably have noticed by now that I have drifted from the present tense to the past tense in the things I have said about Monty.  As I have said before this was no accident on my part.

  But is due to something I strongly believe, and I hope that I can convince you in it as well before you leave.

  I want to introduce you to a new word, a decisive word, that you may add to your vocabulary of pain and suffering--the word is TEMPORARY.  THAT’S RIGHT, TEMPORARY1

  Whatever anguish, pain, grief, we feel will not last.  It is temporary.

  Yet today, it is astonishing that so many people are almost embarrassed to talk about a belief in an afterlife.

  But the Bible, the Torah, the Koran, and practically every religious book and authority speaks of an afterlife with a spirit of joy and anticipation.

  Monty felt it.  He knew about it.   How do I know this?  Let me give you an idea of how much humor Monty felt in life; and why I believe Monty felt it also.

  In the hospital, when Monty was racked with excruciating pain and discomfort, when everyone tried to relieve his anguish, he made the decision it was time for him to move on.  He told the children who were there to just unplug the machines.

  Naturally, the children could not agree with that decision.  How could they?  Could you?  Certainly not!  They still were holding on to the slim hope that things would turn around for Monty.  But Monty knew they wouldn’t.  So he told Debbie and Greg to turn the machines off, and let him go and meet his beautiful wife; whom he never stopped loving.

  Greg pleaded with his father to hold on until Lori and George got there; and at that time they could make a decision as a family.

  Reluctantly Monty agreed.  But as time went on, and the discomfort mounted, Monty told them to unplug the machines.  Greg again talked to his Dad, and solicited a promise from him that he would wait for the other two children.  Again, after a short time, Monty again told them, this time in no uncertain terms he wanted to move on.  He punctuated his remarks with adjectives so that no one would miss his intentions or meaning.

  Greg reminded his Dad that he promised them he would wait until Lori and George got there before doing anything else.

  Greg said “DAD, YOU PROMISED.”  “DO YOU REMEMBER PROMISING ME THAT?”

  Monty looks up at them and said, and I can see Monty doing this, and said, “Yeah, I remember.  BUT I LIED”.  A very typical response for Monty.

  As far as Monty was concerned it was just “another move”, another change of locations, another new address.  Not much different then what he had done so many times before in his life.

  Of course, to the children, their human emotions were to “hold on”.  Not to let go.

  It is absolutely no comfort when anyone tells us that time will heal our pain and sorrow; that everyone has to go through it.  Does that make it easier to bear?  Of course not.

  For whatever reason God chose to make man as he is--limited and suffering; subject to sorrows and death.  He had the honesty and courage to take His own medicine.  God exacts nothing from us that He has not exacted from Himself.

  He has gone through the whole human experience from the trivial irritation of family life to the worst horror of pain and humiliation.  When He was a man, he played the man.  He was born impoverished, lived with rejection and betrayal, and died in disgrace.  But through it all, He felt it worthwhile.

  God never intended for man to die.  Man was created to live forever.  

  Because of rebellion and stupidity on the part of our first parents, death was introduced into the world.

  Still in spite of man’s failures, rejections, lack of appreciation, our God still said that He would not allow death to be the end!

  God did not sit idly by and watch us suffer in isolation.  He became one of us.  The fact that God did come to earth in the presence of Christ, still does not remove pain and suffering and sorrow from our lives.

  But it does show that God intended to know, to understand, to feel what it is like, to feel what we feel, to go through the very last and most horrific event---death itself.

  So God sends Jesus, that through Him He would feel what we feel; and that through Jesus we could experience reconciliation.

  When Jesus met someone in pain and grief, he was deeply moved with compassion.  His friend, Lazarus, died and what did Jesus do?  He did what every other friend would do who loses someone they love.  We are told, ”He wept”.  He cried.  Probably his whole body shook uncontrollably with grief, sorrow, and loneliness.  That was the human emotion He felt.  He just broke down and cried--Or Savior, our Redeemer, our Friend, our Brother, and our God--CRIED.

  When faced with the possibility of suffering and being alone He recoiled from it.  He didn’t want to have to go through it.  Not once, but three times, He implores His Father for another way.  But there wasn’t another way. Why?  Because God had not yet felt and experienced the last, most horrific, most frightening thing that mankind has to face-death.

  For the first time, Jesus really felt the most human sense of abandonment.  He cries out,” My God, My God, why have you abandoned me?  Why have you forsaken me?”

  God looks upon us and he says: “Ok, now I understand.  I had to watch my own Son being shamed, ridiculed, beaten, whipped, punched, kicked, and then I had to bear the agony of watching spikes being driven through his hands, his feet; and a spear being plunged into His side.  Having to watch all of that I fully understand the desperation you feel who grieve and are sorrowful.”

  Then our God tells us that He is going to give us hope and assurances that are going to help us through these kinds of crises’.

  First, He wants us to know that death is not the end.  Forget the words death, dead, died.  Those are painful, ugly words.  They conjure up images of foreboding, darkness and fear.

  Replace them with words that bring cheer, images of light and hope.

  Paul wrote “Behold, I show you a mystery; we shall not all SLEEP, but we shall all be changed..”  I Cor. 15:51.

  I Thess. 4:14 “For if we believe that Jesus died, and rose again, even so them that SLEEP  in Jesus will God bring with him.”

  Matt. 9:24 “the maid is not dead, but SLEEPETH.”

  Remember I mentioned Lazarus, well Jesus said “Our friend Lazarus SLEEPETH; but I go, that I may AWAKE  him out of SLEEP.”  His disciples said, “That’s good, we are glad he is ASLEEP.

  However, Jesus was talking about his death.   That’s how our Lord thinks about death.  A sleep.

CONCLUSION:  God cares.  God loves.  God has prepared.

  Do you honestly think that it was wishful thinking or a coincidence when Monty said, “I am ready to be with Jackie”?

  When someone is making the move from terrestrial to celestial, they sometimes see, feel, experience things which we do not understand, and they attempt to share that with us who have to remain behind; do you think it is only their imagination?

  
  “The eye has not seen, the ear has not heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man what God has prepared form them..”

  John 14:1,2 “In my Father’s house are many mansions.  I go to prepare for you a place, that where I am you may be also.”

  Job 14:14 if a man die, shall he live again?  All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till MY CHANGE COME.”

  Lam. 3:26 “It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the….Lord.”

YESTERDAYS CHRISTMASES

     I force my thoughts away from summer days when my cousins and I were like straw-flowers gamboling across dusty Oklahoma plains. The vision is replaced by the smiles of precious grandparents and Christmas time.  There's Grandpa standing in front of his general store. He waves as we drive up in Daddy's shiny new Ford. Grandma waves from the porch of her white framed farm house. We wave back.

      In the next image, seven grandchildren (I'm the eight-year-old with the Buster Brown haircut and the dirty face) line up in front of Grandpa's candy counter.  Glass bins hold a selection of confections that put stars in our eyes and larceny in our beggar-hearts.  No matter how appealing our smiles, he allows only one penny-sack of candy for each, and a big orange or cream soda to wash it down. 

    "If you spoil your appetites for dinner, Grandma will have my hide," grandpa warns.  I pay him no never-mind as I sit atop a pickle barrel and delve into my sack of goodies.  The cousins roam up and down the aisles of the little store stuffing their faces, and showing off their newly attained reading skills by loudly proclaiming, "Black strap molasses, crispy crackers, Clabber-Girl baking powder, . . ."  Best of all, I remember the warmth of the pot bellied stove standing watch in the corner of the store, and the combined bouquet of roasted peanuts, coffee beans, and Grandpa's Old Spice shaving lotion .

      No one could cook like Grandma Bess.  With all the pride of a cordon-bleu chef, she reigned over her delicacies garbed in a bib apron over an ankle-length print dress.  Her holiday table literally groaned under the weight of roast turkey, chicken and dumplings, cornbread dressing, giblet gravy, and mounds of fluffy mashed potatoes dripping fresh churned butter. Those were "just a few of my favorite things." Then, Grandma's magical pastries were brought to the table: four-layer coconut cakes, and spicy pumpkin pies topped with sweetened whipped cream. Daddy used to say his mother always cooked enough for Cox's Army.  And, of course, she did.

     After the feast, adults and children alike staggered to the parlor and collapsed on overstuffed sofas and chairs.  I do believe the first American "couch potatoes" were born right there in my grandma's parlor.  Daddy and the uncles snored as mother and the aunts gossiped, catching up on family news.  The kids and me, when no one was watching, sneaked into grandpa's office and played his old wind up Victrola.  I think I first fell in love with classical music listening to those scratchy recordings.  Anyway, the day flew by faster than you could say Alka-seltzer and too soon it was time to leave another Christmas behind.

     "Goodbye Grandma and Grandpa, goodbye Mother and Daddy.  Goodbye Uncles and Aunts. Goodbye Cousins Monty, Booty, and Norma, You are gone now, but you still live on in my heart and in yesterday's Christmases, and in everything I write.

We will always remember Monty with fond memories.  He was a good friend, but most of all he always treated our daughter with love and respect.  He always greeted her with his big booming voice, which she loved.  He was a kind man and will be missed greatly. Gary, Kathy, Erin Wiener

A GENTLE GIANT - those are the words that first come to mind. I meet Mr. Singleton when they lived in Maryland. I always loved going over to their house. It was always filled with so much love, laughter, and smiles. Always smiling both Mr. & Mrs. Singleton. I would always go home with my cheeks hurting from smiling and laughing so much. He a Dallas fan - me a Redskins fan. Oh the friendly rivalry we shared. One day after a game between the two teams (unfortunately Dallas won) Debbie and I went out on the town and unbeknownst to me he had put a Dallas sign on the passenger side of my car. I keep getting all these honks, yells, shouts and inappropriate hand gestures. Well I later discovered the sign on my car and I had to just laugh. When the family moved up to New York it was very disheartening. Debbie and I would travel on the weekends to visit her parents. We would arrive in the wee hours of the morning and Mr. Singleton always greeted me with beer in hand. One particular morning, after a late night, he greeted me with a baby bottle filled with beer. Always a fun time with the Singletons. Thank you for all the good times I shared with your family and thank you for the photo gallery. It brought back so very many memories. I leave you with this Prayer:
AN IRISH FUNERAL PRAYER - â€œDeath is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Everything remains as it was. The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no sorrow in your tone. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effort. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again.â€  -  Mr. Singleton - I look forward to laughing with you again, and in the meantime I have asked Tom to show you around and keep you company until we all get there! Monty was one of the few people I have known my entire life. He was like a second father to me.  I remember living next door to the Singletons in OKC during the 50's.  Our families were very close friends. That friendship lasted even after their many moves around the country.  Monty was always fun to be around and made me feel like a "queen" everytime I saw him.  He could always make me laugh, even as an adult.  He is the last one of our parents to pass away. I know all of them are in heaven now still watching over us and laughing about the times we spent together. I will miss his wonderful laugh and caring personality. He made my life better just by being a part of it.  He will be greatly missed!

He made my brother nick and I so happy when he first moved to Houston, I will always remember taking turns spending the night at his house. When Allie was born we were kind of mad because she was cutting in on our time with him, but we learned to share. I think about it, and actually we shared our papaw with all of our friends too. Every one of my friends knew this great man simply as Papaw. I consider myself lucky to have had him living so close throughout most of my life. His stories were inspiring to me as I grew up and his jokes never got old.  Papaw always showed strength, kindness, determination and treating others with respect were the ingredients to success.  You are larger than life, your smile was contagious, and your laugh is unforgettable.  I have many great memories of you and me, which will always be close to my heart.  I will miss all of those lunches buddy.

I had the priviledge of you being my other Dad for the last 40 years.  Your smile was infectious and I will always miss your laugh.  Loved our Mexican food dinners and long talks by the pool. I first had an opportunity to get to know of Monty when Fleming moved to Houston and he ran the Texas Division.  I met him at a Texas Wholesale Grocers meeting and I was very impressed.  He was articulate, knowlegeable, and knew how to be a leader.  That is when our friendship began and continued until he passed away.  He had so much industry knowledge, he was imaginative, he challenged people, and people instantly developed a fondness for him.  We were also both in NAWGA and had a chance to get to know him better, and then we were ultimately fortunate enough to recruit him in the 1980's.  He worked for McLane Company for several years, and he was always cheerful, positive, upbeat as well as being professional and knowledgeable.  He had a gift for dealing with people -- he was a born leader.  We will all miss him, but we know he is with our Lord watching over us.

Dear Debbie, Patrick, Nathan, Nick.and Allie
      I know how lost you all are without Papaw and realize what an impact this has on your day to day lives , but please try to always remember how very lucky you have been to have had him as a very vital part of your family and not just a relative that you occassionally got to visit with . You have a lifetime of memories and for that you are all so greatly blessed. Papaw loved each and every one of you and was so happy to be a part of your daily life. He took such pride in all of your accomplishments and I know he is in Heaven bragging on all of you right now. I love Papaw and am very honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of his life. As each day passes and I think of Monty I will smile  and remember what a GREAT man Geaorge Monroe Singleton was!

I was very sorry to hear about the passing of Monty, and want you to know that your family will be in our prayers.  Monty was a wonderful person, and even though I hadn't known him for very long, he was the type of person who makes a lasting impression once you meet him.  My family and I hope you find some peace in the fact that he was so widely admired and loved.

Papaw always made me feel at home when I was around him. I loved when I would walk into the Vermylens home and see Papaw with a big smile on his face. He would always ask me "How was your day sweety?" I would sit and talk to him sometimes so long that Nick would have to drag me away because Id come in and show more interest to what Papaw was saying than spending time with my own boyfriend! heh. I went alot of places with Papaw and the Vermylen family like Disney world, numerous plays downtown, banquets/dinners, holiday outtings, numerous of Allies choir concerts..etc.
I saw Papaw DAILY for the past 4 years. Now when I go to the Vermylens house, I don't see Papaws car, or his big smile when I walk in the door.. He was like a grandfather too me, and I felt like I was one of his own grandchildren, because thats how he made me feel. I will never forget Papaw, he will remain in my heart forever. My prayers go out to everyone who loved Papaw, and also to the Vermylen family, because they were used to seeing Papaw daily and I know it's going to be rough, but remember, this is all "temporary".

We met Monty a couple years ago through our friends, the Capursos. We played cards a few times and Monty was really an inspiration and cared deeply for his family and friends. Our deepest condolences go out to all his family; we enjoyed very much the short time we knew him.

I remember Monty when I was growing up. He was the father of my best friend Debbie and he became like a second father to me. Now that i am an adult, as life would have it, he moved into my neighborhood! He was such a fun, wise man. I loved hearing his stories. My thoughts and prayers are with all his family.

Papaw, Thank you for all the memories you gave me!! I will forever treasure them!!  You will always be my Papaw.. You were the best Papaw in the whole world!! I will never forgrt what you did for me....EVER!!!!  I  LOVE you & will always  remember the great man you were,  rest in the arms of the angels~~~ I will miss you sooo much!!!!

I always remember the summer I spent time with all of you in Buffalo. Monty made sure I saw and did all I could in the short time I was there. I know he will greatly missed. All my love,

He was and still is my UNCLE MONEY.  When I was very small I called him KUNKEL.  He was always there for me and my family.  Even if the miles were many, I knew he was always there.  I still feel his presence and always will.  We are lucky to have been born into such a close loving family.  And so, Uncle, I love you and miss you but know I will see you again.  Love Sherrie

Monty was not only a great neighbor to us, he was like a surrogate grandpa to our kids.  They never called him anything but Papaw and deservingly so.  He always had open arms to go with his big smile and a joke for all.  The world is a little bit of a better place having been blessed with Monty for all those years. He was a mentor, coach and friend to me as well. I remind myself not to cry because sharing time with him is over, smile because it happened. We will see you again Monty at the big poker game in the sky!

My approach to both business and life is much better having had the honor of spending time over the years visiting with Monty.  All those smart enough to listen to him came away with something positive each time he shared his wisdom with them.  I valued him as a friend and as a client for almost twenty years.

George Monroe Singleton or as most of you knew him as Monty or PaPaw or as my wife Sherry nicknamed Monty Dad, was one of the greatest men there ever was . For all of us that knew him he was the kindest ,hard working, loveable, honorable, wisest and generous man you could ever meet 24-7-365. As his children none of us ever did without. As Mom always said your Daddy works very hard to take care of me and you kids and don't ever forget it. Although he only had a high school education he started climbing the corporate ladder early in life. Then at age 30 something he obtained a Harvard Business Degree in less than a year. Throughout the rest of his life became anexpert in the wholesale grocery and produce business helping companies across the U.S. to grow and prosper. He was known nationwide in the industry. He knew more about his competitors than they knew about themselves. He was amazing with numbers and never forgot a name. He foretold stock market crashes years in advance. He was a genius at stretching a dollar and saving a penney.

As children he was always there for us. As teen agers each of us kids put him & mom threw the ringer but they were always prepared to rescue us and help us no matter what we did or said back to them.

As a boy I was blessed with a Father that helped me become a man. From a very early age my Father my Grandpa's & my Uncle Von all taught me how to hunt & live off the land if that day ever came. We drank coffee early in the morning ate mom's meatloaf sandwiches in the snow and drank whiskey from a thermos in the afternoon. After we shot our limit of pheasants, quail, squirrels or rabbits we skinned & cleaned the game put them in the freezer & never shot anything we were not going to eat.

He made sure all of his children could go to college if they wanted. No matter how old we got he still talked to us like we were kids. He was the pillar of our Family. All his life he would not take no for a answer, and he always looked for a way to succeed. He told us inch by inch life's a cinch yard by yard its pretty hard.

He remained this strong right up till the end. And when he finally started losing his strength and his breath he realized he just could not hang on any longer and he asked us kids to help him go. None of us kids were prepared for this because we had never seen him this way. But the good Lord helped us and now our Daddy is smiling down on us today.

I am very lucky to have my brother and sisters to help me threw this and we will miss him so.

Monty was my mother's (Patricia Robison/Jones') cousin, and I have very fond memories of him. Growing up, I can remember him when we visited as well as when he came to Tulsa. He looked just like my Grandfather Robison, Bruce, who was Monty's uncle. His life and ethics should be a model to us all.........

I only met Mr. Singleton once at his son's house in Granbury and found him to be  a really nice man. So sorry he had to leave so soon.. Kathy and Ronnie Anderson, Granbury, Texas

I know this is a difficult and sad time. Remember your dad will be with you every time you think of him, or see something that he loved. My prayers and thoughts will be with you during this sorrow filled time.

We have known Monty , meeting at the round table on Sundays, for several years, Always smiling and happy. We will miss you.  He will  be watching us and his family forever.  My prayers are with his family..

"Monty", I have never stopped considering as my Dad. He has always shown love and true interest in all of his friends and family. I shall greatly miss him. He will always be in my heart and thoughts. When he wrote me and told me he also still considered me a daughter and that he was honored to do so, I have be inspired to follow his example. He has been a mentor for me on family values and even though life's obligations kept us apart in distance, I have had and still have great love for him.     He was an inspiration to me and continues to be. I'll miss the times being able to be with him.

Papaw was an amazing grandfather. He knew exactly what he wanted and just how to get it. Usually, that was time for family. Family was extremely important him. No matter how busy his schedule was, he always found time for us. We all learned a great deal from his life. Words cannot express how much love, inspiration and motivation he was able to donate to all of us. His presence was larger than life. His words still echo in my heart and mind. I will miss his voice and his laugh very much. He was a very eloquent speaker and captivated anyone around him.  We miss you Papaw and love you very much. You will always be remembered.

What an amazing man !  Monty was such an interesting , knowledgable person.  He always told great stores about his life and the people he knew. He talked about his family endlessly.  A group of about 12 of us met on Sunday and Wednesday mornings and he was always there with his big smile for everyone.  We will miss him but will save a chair for him.  What a great life he had. Monty and Jackie were our next door neighbors in Western Hills; Temple, TX.  Monty spent many years working with several people at McLane Co. in Temple and across the US.  A towering man with a smile and gleam in his eye, he always had time for you and wisdom to share when you needed it.  Some of our fondest memeories are of Monty playing "Grandpa and coach" to our son Jake who was always ready to play ball with his friend next door.

Your hearts are heavy and these days will be sad but please be consoled that your brother, dad, grandpa and friend was truly a wonderful and remarkable human being to everyone.  We will always remember him and keep him and Jackie in our prayers and hearts.

My cousin Monty was the brother I never had. We grew up together, played, went to school, and enjoyed our families together. His mother, My Aunt Ruby was my dad's sister and we all lived in Shawnee, OK for a long time. I'll always remember the wonderful times spent at our Grandma and Grandpa's country home near Wynnewood, OK.
May our Lord hold you and your dear Jackie in His arms until we all meet again.
