

Greg was born October 20, 1957, in Urbana, Ohio to Leonard L. Smith and Janice J. Smith. Greg graduated from West Liberty-Salem High School in 1976. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy on November 3, 1976, until March 20, 1982. He honorably served our country including the reserves. During his time in the US Navy, he met the love of his life, Deborah L. Robert. They tied the knot on April 9, 1990, and were inseparable till Debbie's passing in 2023. Greg always stayed busy and spent a lot of time with those he loved. He was an avid member of the American Legion Post 521, Pasadena, Texas. Wherever there was a grill there was Greg; he was honored to bring the community together with great food. When he wasn't serving the community, he was up on the stage singing his favorite karaoke songs. To those who knew him he was "Hippy Greg" on the stage and would give a performance of a lifetime. His love of music was endless but without a doubt he always singing to his favorite artists; Lynard Skynyrd, Neil Young, Pink Floyd, and BTO just to name a few.
Greg loved woodworking projects including refinishing furniture. He also assembled beautiful wind chimes using different materials that he would find and friends would give to him. Sitting on his back patio and listening to all the wind chimes is very soothing. He has given many of them as gifts. He had many stories about where different materials came from.
Greg was preceded in death by his loving wife, Debbie Smith, mother-in-law Rosie Robert, parents, brothers, Scott W. Smith and Kevin L. Smith. He leaves behind his brothers, Larry Smith and Doug Smith; sisters, Darla Evilsizor (August Sciarabba), Paula Clarke, Lorenda (Brian) Williams; brothers-in-law, Wallace Lockey (Doris), Bo (Pat) Robert; sisters-in-law, Gwen (Bobby) Flowers, Dian Starr, Tina (Richard) Duncan; his fur babies, Buster, Sam, Minnie and a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, Aunt Jean Boysel, cousins and friends.
Greg was an honorable seaman, husband, brother and friend, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Gentiva Hospice care team especially Nicole and Tonya who took great care of him in his final days of life. A visitation for Gregory will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, TX 77339. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM, 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, TX 77339. A committal service will occur Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 12:45 PM to 1:15 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038. Luncheon to follow at the American Legion Post 521, 2221 Preston Road. Pasadena, TX 77506.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Greg's name to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or any animal charity of your choice.
The family requested to honor Greg's wishes and dress casual for his services.
