Born on March 10, 1930, in Cecilia, Louisiana, Jesse carried his Cajun roots with pride. He served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was assigned to the 505th Transportation Truck Company, part of the 55th Transportation Battalion under the 5th Armored Division. This unit played a vital role in supporting the war effort through the transportation of troops, equipment, ammunition, and high-ranking officers across the war zones, often under dangerous and difficult conditions.
During his deployment, he was entrusted with transporting some of the most prominent military leaders, including President Dwight D. Eisenhower, General Douglas MacArthur, General Edward Almond, and General Walton Walker. Though he was not driving the jeep involved in General Walker's fatal accident, he was one of his regular drivers. For his service, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
After his service in the Army, Man returned to Louisiana, where he married the love of his life, Elsie Taylor. They moved to Houston, Texas, where they raised their four children. He worked for 30 years with American Can Company. He and his family settled in Porter, Texas, raising a family grounded in love, humility, and strength.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his wife of 70 years, Elsie Taylor Hebert; his daughters, Jackie Hayes and husband Bob; Peggy Howard, Billie Froggatt and husband Mark; and his son, Jesse "Sonny" Hebert Jr. His grandchildren, Lindsay Froggatt, Robert Taylor Hebert and wife Jodi, Danielle Lexima and husband Sean, Joseph "Joee" Howard and wife Kate, and great-grandchildren, Rory Hayes Hebert, Maverick Hayes Hebert, and soon-to-be baby boy Lexima arriving in September, will continue to carry his spirit. His step-grandchildren, Kaden Scarborough and Korbin Barlow, as well as his siblings, Jerry Hebert, Betty Barras, Lois Amason, Donald Hebert, James "Leon" Hebert, and Barbara Huval, also mourn his passing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ophe and Isabelle LeBlanc Hebert, and his brothers, Robert "Bobby" Hebert and Ronald "Ron" Hebert.
Jesse lived a life of service to his country, his family, and to his God.
Special thanks to the staff at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital and Elara Hospice for their compassionate care and loving support during this difficult time.
