JoAnn Evanger, 83, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026. She was born on June 29, 1942, in Seattle, Washington, to Elmer and Ernestine Francis. JoAnn was a gentle, kind-hearted, and compassionate woman who was deeply beloved and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Raised on Queen Anne Hill alongside her younger brother, Jay, JoAnn graduated from Queen Anne High School, Class of 1961. Her early years helped shape the patient and selfless spirit that would define her life and the way she cared for others.
In 1966, JoAnn married Mervin Evanger. Together, they shared more than 40 years of marriage until his passing in 2007. They built a loving home in Mountlake Terrace, Washington, where they raised their three children: Michael (Olena), Dana (Vickie), and Wendi (Todd).
JoAnn’s family was her greatest joy. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren—Tarina (Colton), Ashlee, Dane, Taylor, Kaiden, Reighlyn, Everly, and Hudson—and a great-grandmother to Shelby. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mervin, and her son, Dana. She is survived by her brother, Jay; her children, Michael and Wendi; and her grandchildren and great-grandchild, all of whom will carry forward her legacy of love and care.
JoAnn found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. She loved to travel, with Hawaii holding a special place in her heart. Summers spent at the family cabin on Lake Samish brought her great happiness, as did playing the piano, searching for her next travel destination, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
Throughout her life, JoAnn remained a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her steady presence, compassionate spirit, and gentle strength will be remembered with deep gratitude and enduring love.
She will be forever missed and always remembered.
