She was born on January 1, 1954 in Texarkana, Texas, where she lived until moving to Austin in 1968. After retiring from a 30-year career with the State of Texas in 2004, she moved back to Texarkana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Janie Holmes, and her brother, Mike. She is survived by her only child, Jason, and his wife Kim and three grandchildren, Rylee, Tanner and Ashtyn whom she loved more than anything on earth. She is also survived by her brother Pat and his family.
During her time in Austin, she became an avid fan of UT sports – especially Longhorn baseball, where she was a proud member of the “Wild Bunch”. Nita Rene loved animals and often adopted strays wherever she’d come across them.
She had an infectious laughter that could be heard for miles and made friends everywhere she went. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, Nita Rene asks that donations be made to Operation Smile, a non-profit organization providing cleft lip and palate repair surgeries to children worldwide.
