Through her school years, Judy attended schools in Phillips, Texas, and she was a proud Blackhawk from the Class of 63. After graduation, she attended college briefly before she moved with her BFF to the “big city” of Oklahoma City. They stayed at the YMCA together while they hunted for jobs, and one night, when they went out, she met, and eventually married Ray Garr Jr. They were married for eight years, and had two children, Leslie and Philip. When Leslie was 3 months old, in October of 1968, Judy went to work at Kerr-McGee in the Oklahoma City headquarters in their accounting department. Judy worked in the Oklahoma City office until her marriage to Terry Sears in 1985, when she transferred to the Houston office . Judy and Terry were married for 11 years until 1996, and during that marriage, she gained 4 daughters. While in the Houston office, she first worked for Clyde Nath, and then Ken Crouch, and with her Kerr McGee family until she retired in 1999, after 31 years with the same company.
Judy met Murphy in 2000, and in February 2001, they married and built their Summerwood home. Judy and Murphy shared many great adventures – cruises and cross country road trips, but their favorite ‘getaway’ was their very own backyard. They spent countless hours creating a beautiful oasis where they enjoy their huge plumerias and the koi pond they built. Each winter, they enjoyed using more than 10,000 lights to convert their home into their own version of the North Pole until they built their home in Oakhurst where they would live out their final years. Once Murphy passed in September, 2018, Judy continued to live there on her own until her final days.
While in the hospital for an injured back, Judy learned of her stage 4 lung cancer which was already spread throughout her body, and she passed away Saturday, August 17th, 2024, just nine days after she first heard the diagnosis; the brevity and severity of which stunned us all.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, Don and Opal Paschal, beloved husband, Murphy Hingle, daughters Sheri and TJ and their father, Terry Sears, and Ray Garr, Jr., father of Leslie and Philip.
Judy is survived by her children with Ray - daughter, Leslie Garr Aaron (her life partner Karen, grandchildren Shanice (her husband DeShaun, great granddaughters Sasha and Aria), Kelly, Jaelyn, Mark, Dylan, and Eric) and son, Philip Garr, (his wife Tonya, grandchildren Lance and Nathan), and her daughters with Terry, Misti, (granddaughter Jami), and Mauri. Judy is also survived by her sister, Mary Shank, (niece Eve Reim, nephew Ronnie Shank, (wife Rose, and great-nieces, Andrea and Kaylee).
In addition to her blended family, there are countless friends and colleagues, that were Judy’s chosen family, who are grieving this great loss as well.
A memorial service for Judy will be held Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 2:00 pm, at the Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Hwy 59 N., Kingwood, TX 77339. A reception will follow at the home of Kit and Michelle McAfee, at 5192 Andorra Bend Ln., Porter, TX 77365. Judy’s final resting place will be with Murphy Hingle, in the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
Flowers are welcome, but, if desired, in lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Lung Association in her honor would be appreciated.
