Born on March 6, 1934 in Alhambra, Illinois, Marjorie was the daughter of Irma Margaret (Schader) and Russell Washington Gehrig. Marjorie graduated in 1952 from Edwardsville High School in Edwardsville, Illinois. In 1955, she obtained her Associate Degree in Nursing from Deaconess in St. Louis, Missouri. On April 19, 1958, she married William George Niemeyer and they raised three children together. Marjorie loved her family and was a very proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She was eagerly anticipating the birth of another great-granddaughter, Brielle Gerow, in March of this year. Marjorie and William maintained a loving and supportive marriage for 67 years. They moved to Kingwood in 1976 and lived in the same house surrounded by many wonderful neighbors for 50 years.
Marjorie worked for Houston Northwest Medical Center and TOPS Surgical Specialty Hospital in Houston, Texas as a perioperative nurse from 1978 to 2002. She began work as a staff nurse in surgery and soon transitioned to a leadership role. She took extraordinary care of her staff and physicians, always advocating for them, supporting their growth, and ensuring they felt valued and heard. Most importantly she never lost sight of what mattered most, her patients. An exceptional nurse with an unwavering work ethic, she was deeply engaged in her work and inspired others by her example. Her leadership was marked not only by competence and dedication, but by kindness, integrity, and genuine love for the people she served.
In 1976, Marjorie joined Holy Comforter Lutheran Church in Kingwood. Being a part of the church gave her comfort and purpose throughout her life. She loved the church, the parishioners there, and served faithfully. Outside of church, Marjorie enjoyed sports, especially basketball. She grew up as a St. Louis Cardinals fan and developed a love for the Houston Astros after moving to Texas.
Marjorie was passionate about her family. She was always engaged in their lives with the “million” questions she loved to ask. She stayed connected to her family and close friends from work, church, and her neighborhood.
