Sonny Diaz Manzano

Services for Sonny Manzano, 69, of Kingwood, Texas, formerly of San Diego, California, were held at 4:00pm, Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Hwy 59 N, Kingwood, Texas. Burial will take place at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego at 11:30am, Thursday, February 9th, 2023. Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Navy Honor Guard.

Mr. Manzano was born on December 7, 1953 in Manhattan, NY to parents, Jorge Carrion and Rosidalia Manzano and passed away on December 20, 2022 in Kingwood, Texas.

Sonny grew up in New York and attended college at SUNY New Paltz in upstate New York. After graduating college, he joined the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California. While serving, he also worked as a reserve police officer for the San Diego Police Department. After the completion of his military service, he became a full time police officer for the City of San Diego. After several years of serving his community as a police officer, he became a federal agent and worked for over 20 years with ATF, and U.S. Customs Immigration Enforcement (ICE) agencies. While Sonny dedicated his life to serving his country and community, his greatest passion was his family.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nadine Torres Manzano; daughter, Angela Hanuna; son, Jon Manzano; daughter in law, Mimi Manzano; grandchildren, Xavier and Alivia Hanuna; and companion dog, Nellie Manzano. He loved watching his children and grandchildren grow up and took advantage of every opportunity to be involved in their lives. He loved to attend every one of his children's and grandchildren's school performances, award ceremonies, and sporting events. He loved taking Xavier and Alivia on ice cream dates after school. In his later years, before falling ill with Alzheimer's Disease, he also loved to walk Alivia and Xavier to school with Nellie. He was a selfless man, loving husband, dedicated father and will be missed dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association.
