Sylvia Ione Ervin, 85, of Splendora, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025 at Houston Extended Care in Kingwood. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas on October 29, 1939, the eldest daughter of the late Robert Wayne and Mary Margaret Stratton.
Sylvia was a long-time teacher’s aide and secretary at New Caney High School, but her most cherished job was being a wife and a mother to her children, Lisa, Chuck and Jason.
Sylvia was truly a loving and giving person. While she loved to shop and look for deals, Sylvia’s true passion was giving gifts to everyone in her life. She adored all things Hollywood and nobody could beat her at movie trivia. Her favorite pastime was amassing her huge collection of movies, especially the classics. You almost couldn’t visit her home without “want to put a movie in?” being offered.
Sylvia is survived by her son Jason Ervin and his wife, Christy, her daughter, Lisa Tanner and her wife, Elizabeth Davis, her granddaughters Cierra, Darrian, and Torri, her three sisters, Sheila Jones, Roberta Howard, and Cherie Schroder, and a host of cherished friends who she affectionately referred to as “her posse.”
Sylvia is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Jim Ervin, her son Chuck Tanner, and her older brother, Wayne Stratton.
The family extends its gratitude to the compassionate staff at Houston Extended Care for their loving care in helping deal with her health struggles in the past few years. The family would also like to thank Sylvia’s helper and dear friend, Barbara Vick for her love and support.
A memorial service and celebration of Sylvia’s life will be on February 22, 2025 at 2pm at Kingwood Funeral Home.
