Walter Marion McFerrin, 87, of Kingwood, Texas, passed away on March 14, 2026. Born July 20, 1938, Walter’s life was marked by a generous, uplifting spirit and a love for the people and passions that shaped his years. From the beginning, he carried forward the strength of humble roots and the pride of a life built with determination and heart.
Walter was born in Oakland Mississippi. He grew up from humble beginnings, his father a farmer and sharecropper. He always remembered helping his mom pick cotton at a very young age. His family moved to Houston and settled on the “Northside.” As soon as he could, he served in the Navy and was stationed outside San Diego, California for four years.
After returning to Houston, Walter ran into an old friend and asked why he was wearing a suit. The friend replied that he worked at the Chevy store downtown, and Walter said, “I want to work there too, if I can wear a suit.” Walter got hired and loved wearing his suits, quickly growing into management roles. That drive became a lifelong passion for business—leading him to open his own used car lot on 59 and Little York. He later moved to Humble and opened McFerrin Motors and All Purpose Storage. He invested in other ventures throughout the years, but his true passion was McFerrin Motors.
Walter embraced life fully. He loved boating at Lake Travis, fishing, and RVing in his later years. He was involved with Sport C and Formula 1 racing, and he enjoyed traveling to Lake Havasu and Louisiana with his friends. Above all, Walter loved his friends and family, and he would always help in any need if he could—because that was simply who he was: a generous man with a big heart.
Walter is survived by his three sons, Mark Bliss, Mike McFerrin, and Max McFerrin; five grandchildren, Zack, Jennifer, Christian, McKenna, and Georgia Kate; and five great grandchildren.
