His death has been a shock to the family as we grieve his tragic and unexpected passing. As part of a large, blended family, Alec and his oldest sibling Henry were the two "brains" of the clan. He was a quiet, shy, unassuming man with a neat sense of humour, that often came out when least expected. He was never married. When he was a baby, he seldom cried, but lay very still, absorbing the world around him. He never talked baby talk, but waited until he could make sentences to be heard. That was an early indication of how very smart he was. Alec studied at the University of Waterloo and spent his time after graduation teaching, doing research, and writing several papers for the University. He also spent a year in England at Oxford, doing research and working there. Friends recall that whatever he set his mind to do, he did perfectly, a smart and talented man. He taught himself to play the guitar, and was part of a small band for a while. Alexander was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Erna Janzen, siblings Henry (Pierette), Helen Staller (John), Sigrid Break (Jack), Annelies Reimer (John), Fred Janzen, his younger brother David, and brother-in-law Ron Hofstetter. He is survived by siblings Martha Hofstetter, brother Jim and his wife Margot, sister-in-law Sandra, and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Alec's family will receive relatives and friends for a Celebration of Life at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900), on Sunday, April 24, 2022, from 1 - 3 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations would be appreciated to a charity of your choice.
