

Danny was born on April 5, 1965 in Sandy Cove, Nova Scotia to the late Margaret Butler (Williams).
During his life, Danny took great pride in his work, community as well as teaching and training up and coming new chefs.
Danny started his cooking career as a dishwasher at the age 14 in Georgetown, Ontario before getting experience at several restaurants in Georgetown, Brampton and Muskoka and his longtime childhood friend, Executive Chef, Raymond Hawkins.
Over the next 40+ years, Danny had served several V.I.P. banquets, catering parties for the elegant, influential and actors to athletes. He was approached by the cooking show Donut Wars but had to turn it down due to prior commitments. Danny did shoot 4 episodes for C.T.V. Kitchener- Waterloo Breakfast T.V.
In the mid 90's, Danny took a short break from cooking to try the art of steel work with his long time best friend Darryl Campbell but discovered it was not his cup of tea. Danny returned to cooking and excepted a position as Executive Chef for brothers John and Alec Cerny, owners of Sole, The Blackshop and Melvilles Cafe. Danny very quickly found his new home for the next 23 years and even having children growing up together with the Cerny family. Danny retired from The Blacksmith Shop in July of 2022 to take a long deserved vacation.
As a kid, he learned how to play hockey and very quickly discovered his love for the Toronto Maple Leafs often ribbing his brothers, one who is an Ottawa fan.
Danny is survived by his son Keith, daughter Keira of Kitchener and twin brothers, Ian of Quispamsis, New Brunswick and Chris of Newmarket, Ontario as well as several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
Danny is predeceased by his mother, Margaret Buttler of Shelburne, N.S. and his father, Ross Potter of South Porcupine, Ontario.
A private graveside interment will take place in 2023 in Shelburne, N.S. where his ashes will be reunited with his mother, grandmother and uncle.
