Cameron Edward Youngs passed away on Monday, October 9th, at Saint Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. Beloved husband of Lisa for 32 years. Proud father to Keegan and Kailee Youngs. Cherished brother of Fred Youngs (Janet), Elena Simington, and Roberta Youngs-Ransom (Bryan). Dear uncle of Emrys Horton (Melissa); Kyle, Muriel (Dave), and Nathan Youngs; Isaac (Ana), Natasha (Ryan), and Lael Ransom. Loving great uncle of Zoey, Luke, and Owen; Eleanor and Simon. Predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Fredena Youngs. Missed by his loyal companion, Bentley.
As a young boy and teen, Cam was an avid Formula Vee Racing fan, eventually getting his own Formula Vee car, going to racing school, and then racing at circuits like Mosport and Shannonville. He always remembered these days of attending the races with his dad, brother and friends as special times in his life. Lisa joined him and supported his love of the race track but once children came into his world, his love for them and his family took over and racing took a back seat.
He was a loving and attentive father, always providing the best for his children. The family fondly remembers summer vacations to Sherkston Shores, hikes anywhere from Hamilton to Tenerife, trips to Disney, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Quebec City. Holidays and birthdays were always celebrated with joy, creating lasting memories for all the family.
To Cam, pets were family. He was kind to all animals and seemed to have a special relationship with them. Bentley, his precious golden retriever, spent many an hour with him in his illness and now misses him immensely.
Cam will be remembered by many for his kindness to all, his sense of humour, and his loyalty to his friends and family. On any given weekend, he could be found biking, hiking, helping a neighbour or supporting someone in need. His customers remember him as someone who genuinely cared about them and was not just there to sell a product. He excelled in his career and was often part of the prestigious “President’s Club”, winning trips to places around the world as one of the top executives on two occasions.
With courage, he faced his difficult diagnoses which robbed him of years of life and left his family in grief. He never complained and always said he “just hoped there would be a cure.” For him, there wasn’t. He continued to find joy in the world in spite of the limitations the disease held for him. His optimism and courage is an example for us all. We thank him for teaching us that even when things don’t turn out as planned, the world is still a beautiful place. He touched all of our hearts when, in the last few months of his life, he would look with love at Lisa and say, “I am the luckiest man in the world. Lisa helps me with everything and takes care of me.” All of us who knew Cam are lucky to have been touched by his simple grace, acceptance, and love for family and life.
In memory of Cam, donations to the ALS society of Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.
Cameron’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Westmount Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Visitation at 11:00am, followed by service at 12:00pm. Interment will take place at Williamsburg Cemetery.
