On Friday, September 24, 2010 at 84 years of age. Emerson MacMillan, beloved husband of the late Anna Attje MacMillan, Dear father of David and his wife Cathy of Parry Sound, Anna and her Partner David Neave of Toronto, John of Toronto. Loving grandfather of Lindsay, Nicholas and Mitchell. Fondly remembered by Peter Boggs, Carmin MacMillan, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Emerson will be sorely missed by Fredena Youngs, his companion of many years and by her children and grandchildren. An educator his whole career, Emerson retired as a Superintendent of Program in 1981. In the letter accepting his retirement the Director of Education Mr. W. T. Townsend, expressed very well the type of man Emerson was: A comment by a former superior provides an opinion of Mr. MacMillan shared by many: “ inspirational, conscientious, forthright but tactful, warm personality, enthusiastic.” Notabable omissions to that assessment include his mastery of language and his positive and distinctive sense of humor.
