Went to be with his Lord in his 79th year on Thursday, July 16, 2015 with his family at his side. A much loved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, son-in-law, cousin and friend. Left to cherish his memory are his children of whom he had great pride in their many accomplishments: David (Tina) Weicker, Susan (Pierre) Forgues, Kelly Wolfe-Sabo, Robert (Liz) Wolfe, Janette Wolfe, Richard (Magda) Wolfe, and Regina Wolfe. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Michelle (Craig) Hominick, Amelia & Annabelle; Rob (Angela) Forgues; Steven & Jessica Ulrich; Destin (Alisha) Wolfe-Sabo, Avery, Ariana; Colton Wolfe-Sabo, Dakota Wolfe-Sabo & Kayden Curtis-Wolfe. Also left to cherish his memory is his mother-in-law June Carter, his siblings Diane (Brian) Primeau, William, Edith and Raymond Weicker, as well as many cousins and his special friend Peter Kade. Gerald was predeceased by his wife, Judy – the love of his life (April 19, 2005); his parents: Ehrhardt (1969) and Edna (nee Rehkopf – 1947) Weicker; as well as his faithful dog, Dougal (2013) who walked with him daily “in the bush”, consoling and strengthening him following the death of Judy.
After graduating from KWC & VS, Gerald pursued a career in drafting and taught at Waterloo Collegiate, Eastwood Collegiate & was the head of the drafting department at KCI. Gerald was a positive Child of God who lived out his life being a trusted friend to all, including caring for and loving all of God’s creation. He was always an active & committed member of his church: singing in choirs with his great tenor voice, teaching Sunday School & VBS, attending Luther League, playing the piano & organ, leading and attending Bible Studies, serving on church council and as a Deacon. After retiring, he found great joy and spent many hours as a dedicated “ray of sunshine” volunteer. He especially enjoyed the times he spent at Conestoga Lodge and Columbia Forest where he joyfully played favorite hymns for the residents as well as leading worship services from time to time, delivering newspapers, taking people shopping, to get their hair cut and to medical appointments. All these “volunteer services" he did in a respectful, caring manner, receiving more happiness and joy than the recipients of his selfless deeds did! He always enjoyed “hanging out with the beautiful girls” in these facilities and we thank them for the opportunities they gave Gerald to use his gifts and talents over so many years. Gerald’s family invites relatives and friends to Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900) for visitation on Monday, July 20, 2015 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm. Funeral service at Bethany Evangelical Missionary Church, 160 Lancaster St. E., Kitchener, on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 10:30 am. Interment will take place at Avondale Cemetery in Stratford, where he will be laid to rest beside Judy. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Grand River Hospital Foundation, Bethany Evangelical Missionary Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
His heart so full of love, he was oh so caring
He never concerned with himself & was always sharing
Heaven is where he dwells now
On holy knees he would religiously bow
He touched so many lives & gave beyond recognition
Walking beside the Lord & my mom, for quite some time was his vision
The greatest man I've ever known, the best role model there could be
His generosity & commitment to all, spread far across the seas
Never again will there be a man such as he
Unconditionally devoted was all he knew how to be
He came up with the best jokes & had the best advise
No one you would ever meet could ever be so nice
