Reunited with his beloved Jeannie, Gordie passed away peacefully after several years of struggling with health problems.
Born and raised in Kitchener, Gord lived there his entire life. Always a keen athlete his love of baseball and pitching skills took him from a successful baseball career locally to the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Marriage to the love of his life, Jean Zinger, brought him back to KW where Gord worked as a Chartered Accountant and together they raised a family of five children in the home they built on the Ariss homestead.
Gord found a new passion in the game of golf which he pursued avidly. He also enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing, hunting, and skeet shooting at Aberdeen Game Farm.
Above all, family was Gord's greatest treasure and his legendary Sunday dinners brought his ever expanding brood together every week. Happiest with a house full of family and friends he was the consummate host.
Gord is lovingly remembered by his children and their spouses- Janelle and Dave Zettel, John and Kate Ariss, Rob and Joan Ariss, Jackie Barbosa, Roger Barbosa, Chrissy and Rob White; his twelve grandchildren and their spouses- Kelly Zettel, Matt Gazzola, Andrew and Julie Zettel, Janelle Barbosa-Silva and Paul Silva, Josh Barbosa and Paulina Kaczmarek, Jacob, James and Lucas Ariss, Gordie and Teagan Ariss, Emily, Abby and Grace White; his nine great grandchildren- Sam, Sophie, and Lily Zettel, Ariss, Bruno and Francesca Gazzola, Tyrone and Xavier Barbosa-Silva, and Ava Kaczmarek-Barbosa.
