COWAN, Gordon Stuart – Passed away peacefully in Paris, Ontario, on February 15, 2015 in his 98th year. He will be lovingly remembered by his children; Carol Cowan-Anderson (Ken), Louise Allen (Ed), and Jane Arthrell (Doug); grandchildren Lindsay Roberts, Sara Krawetz (Paul), Laura Kihle (Martin), Jessica Malik (Dustin), Eric Arthrell (Erin), and Michael Allen; five great grandchildren, Taylor, Hayzln, Tommy, Oliver, Olsen and extended family and friends. Stuart was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Mary; William and Stella (parents), Alice (step mother), Cameron (brother) and Donna (sister). Stuart dedicated his life to farming and the well-being of his family. A pillar in the Drumbo community, Stuart held executive positions in numerous associations including: Ayr Co-op and Credit Union, Blenheim Junior Farmers, Farm Forum, Drumbo Fair Board, Ayr Farmer’s Fire Insurance, and Willis United Church. Many recall Stuart’s mentorship of local youth by providing opportunities to learn the farming trade and by his long service as Superintendent of Willis United Church Sunday School. While Stuart believed in a hard day’s work, he was also a great music and sports enthusiast performing as tenor in the Willis United Church Choir, violinist in the Drumbo orchestra, coaching the Drumbo Girl’s Baseball Team, and playing 3rd base for the Drumbo Men’s Baseball Team that went on to win two Ontario Championships – a prized memory for Stuart. During his retirement, Stuart continued to fuel his incredibly inquisitive mind occupying his time reading, appreciating poetry, storytelling, visiting with family and friends, and enjoying church and musical gatherings at Park Lane Terrace.
Stuart’s family wishes to express appreciation to Park Lane Terrace Staff for the attentive care received by our mother and father.
In lieu of funeral services, a private family memorial will be held at a later date.
Donations will be graciously accepted in loving memory of Stuart to Cystic Fibrosis Canada or the charity of your choice. Please contact and arrange through the Westmount Funeral Home (519-743-8900)
