Istvan Pinter

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Istvan Pinter, who passed away peacefully and surrounded by his beloved family, at St. Mary’s General Hospital on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the age of 86.

Istvan was a devoted husband to Veronika Pinter and a loving father to Steve (Fiona) Pinter and Marta (Tim) Zonneveld. He cherished his grandchildren, Breanna Hartwick, Nadia Pinter, Natasha Pinter, and Maya Zonneveld, who brought him immense joy and pride throughout his life.

He is also survived by his brother Joszef Pinter and was predeceased by his parents, Maria and Joszef Pinter. In addition to his immediate family, Istvan was a proud uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews across North America and Europe.

Istvan will be fondly remembered for his warmth, dedication to his family, and unwavering work ethic. After bringing his family to Canada in search of a better life, he worked tirelessly to ensure they were always provided for. His greatest joy was spending time with his family—whether playing with his grandchildren (both human and furry), offering guidance on household projects, or simply enjoying their company in his favorite places like the trailer at Turkey Point or the backyard at home. His quiet patience and fierce love left an indelible mark on his friends, family and neighbours alike.

A skilled craftsman and talented handyman with an ever-helpful spirit, Istvan took pride in sharing his skills and mentoring others. Even in later years, he found joy in giving advice and admiring the accomplishments of those around him.

Cremation has taken place. Istvan's family will receive relatives and friends for a Celebration of Life at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900), on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations would be appreciated to St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation, 435 The Boardwalk, Suite 300, Waterloo, ON N2T 0C2.
