

Born in Brantford, Ontario June 5, 1924. Predeceased by her loving husband Douglas MacKellar (2012), by her parents John (aka Jack) and Jessie Pocock, her in-laws Donald & Violet MacKellar, her infant daughter Christine Ann (1947), her brother Alan (1992) and her son-in-law Josef Brenner Jr. (1996).
Joan is survived by her son John MacKellar (Susan), daughter Catherine Brenner (Josef), granddaughter Sarah Gascon (Jason), granddaughter Krista Brenner (Chad), great-granddaughter Kiana Gascon, great-grandson Zachary Gascon and great-grandson Liam Shaw.
After attending Brantford Collegiate Joan was employed by Dempsters Ltd. in Brantford. She accompanied her husband, Doug, in his many post-war RCAF appointments in Canada & USA until settling in Kitchener 1968. Joan was first an Assistant Hostess of Welcome Wagon Canada Limited, and proceeded in rank until in 1974 when she & Doug moved to Mississauga after she was promoted to Welcome Wagon’s Head Office in Toronto, ultimately becoming President and CEO of the Company and retiring as its Chairman Emeritus in 1995. Shortly thereafter she & Doug moved to Waterloo. In retirement, she was an active Member of Probus, and she & Doug frequently travelled including to their condo in Longboat Key in Florida and “The Cottage” in Lion’s Head, Ontario.
Her family, friends, neighbours and all who knew her have enjoyed her love and attention until her sad departure.
Interment took place at Williamsburg Cemetery. Joan’s family will receive relatives and friends at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900), on Sunday, July 29, 2018, from 2:30 – 3:45 p.m., where the memorial service will be held in the chapel at 4:00 p.m. If desired, memorial donations would be appreciated to Canadian Cancer Society.
