She was the cherished mother of Dana (Kathy), Blair (Joanne), Bernadette (Barry), Paul (Marna), Leon (Sheila), and John (Lenore). Pat is further survived by grandchildren Jennifer, Hollie, Laura, Lee (Marion), Lauren (Michael), Scott, Casey, Derek, Kevin, Graham (Brittany), Margaret (Zachary), Felicia, Amanda; and by great-grandchildren Alycia (Shaan), Carter, Braedan, Maleah, Kahlan, Katrina, Nate, Charlotte, Evelyn, Aidan, Oliver, Tene, Isabella; and by great-great-grandchildren Aubrey and Aaliyah.
Pat was predeceased by her husband Mello (2012), parents William Enos Hogan and Senja Wilhelmiina Ristanen, siblings Arthur (Verna), Gordon (Mabel), Joseph (Kay), Andrew (Kay), Josephine (Leopold), Lillian (Mitch), Doreen (Jean), Monica, Senja (William), Phoebe and Francis.
Pat enjoyed a loving 63-year marriage with Mello, working as a full-time teacher in her early adult years and as a supply teacher later on.
Pat was an active member of the Catholic Women's League for over 40 years. She was president of the St. Jerome's Mothers Guild, President of the Carmel of St. Joseph Guild. She and Mello were active members in the Kitchener-Waterloo Right to Life organization, supporting many of their initiatives. In her later years, she supported the Carmelite Sisters of St. Agatha.
Pat received the International Year of the Older Person award in 1999.
Pat put her faith in God into action over her whole life, even to the point of entering the political arena where she was runner up for the Federal Christian Heritage Party in 1993 as a means to spread Christian values. She ran for school board trustee in 1991. She was the recipient of the Bishop Reding Medal of Honour in 1986. Pat’s list of achievements was large as she was always volunteering until her nineties, putting others before herself without forsaking her family.
Besides her extensive volunteering her first priority was always family and faith. No one will forget Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at Pat’s house.
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of the Lanark nursing home for their care and loving treatment.
