Davey Lee Haycraft left this earth August 29, 2023 at the age of 92, ten years before his goal to live to age 102. He is predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Mary (Ryan) Haycraft, two children (Mary 1955 and Baby 1960) and the love of his life, wife for 60 years, Anna Laura (Beavin).
Dave was a man who always had a goal in sight. He worked on the farm to have money for magazine subscriptions (National Geographic, Popular Mechanic and Time) so he could educate himself to be something other than a “farm boy”.
He always told us, “I took the road straight ahead.” Graduating from Hardinsburg High School (1949), serving in the Navy (1953), getting married to Anna (1954), graduating from Purdue University (1957) and spending his entire work career with General Electric where he grew as one of the youngest field managers with the most subordinates.
He lovingly and compassionately cared for his darling Anna for 16 years as she slowly died from Alzheimer’s in 2014. During that time, Dad truly impressed upon us the meaning of the wedding vow “til death do us part”.
Dave is survived by his beloved sister Rosemary (Haycraft) Kennedy, his children Karen, Greg (Lisa) and David (Vanessa). His family tree also includes 7 grandchildren (Kari, Amy, Camren, Jordan, Lauren, Daniel and Jacob), 11 great-grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren and a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He loved family, loved to help others and appreciated what others did for him. He was a very good man who led his family by example in the way he treated others.
A visitation for Dave will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 West Adair Drive, Knoxville, TN 37918, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.berrylynnhurst.com for the Haycraft family.
