

Jerry Cardwell Black, age 86, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025. She was a member of North Knoxville Baptist Church for 41 years. Jerry was an avid fan of gospel music and loved to spend time going to concerts and gospel music conventions with friends. She could often be heard humming favorite hymns and songs while going through her daily activities. Jerry was a former church pianist and passed on her love of music to her children and grandchildren. She loved to travel, hike, garden, and spend time with family. During her career, Jerry worked as a nurse at East Tennessee Tuberculosis Hospital, the Knox County Health Department, various doctor’s offices and East Tennessee Baptist Hospital. Throughout her life she had a special place in her heart for children and taught children’s Sunday School classes, worked each summer in Vacation Bible School, was an assistant in the Mother’s Day Out program at Washington Pike United Methodist Church and volunteered at East Knox County Elementary School working with kindergarten students.
Jerry is preceded in death by parents, Raymond and Jane Cardwell; husband, John Charles Black, Sr.; and nephew, Travis Harvey. She is survived by son, Johnny (Joy) Black; daughter, Vicki Flynn; grandsons, Hunter and Colby Flynn; sister, Kathy (Roy) Harvey; brother, Ray (Chris) Cardwell; niece, Jana Shook; nephew, Joe (Kelly) Cardwell; nephew, Jamie Cardwell; and great nephews, Connor and Ethan Russell, and Carson Cardwell.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 20th from 10am-12pm at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home with funeral service at 12pm. Burial to follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery with Rev.
