Leda Fay Essary

Leda Fay Broyles Essary – age 96 of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, January 03, 2016 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. She was a long time member of Burlington United Methodist and Macedonia United Methodist Churches. Her passion for Jesus led her to touch many lives through nursing, teaching Sunday School and providing for her family and friends. Our loving and caring mother will be greatly missed. She received her RN from Fort Sanders School of Nursing, BSN from University of Colorado and MS from The University of Tennessee. She was a Nursing Instructor at Fort Sanders and St. Mary’s School(s) of Nursing. Fay was a WWII veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Navy Nurse Corps. Preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Robert F. Essary and granddaughter Leslie Essary. Survivors include her children Janet (David) Johnson of Maryville, Phillip (Teresa) Essary of Chattanooga, Michael (LaTresa) Essary of Decatur, AL, Susan (Don) Reed of Seymour, TN, 9 grandchildren Jeremy (Mary Ann) Johnson, Justin (Virginia) Johnson, Jordan (Casey) Johnson, Jonathan (Whitney) Johnson, Laura Beth (Chris) Durbin, Jason (Erin) Essary, Lindsey Essary, Jennifer Reed and Brandon (Grace) Reed and 13 great grandchildren. Essary Scholarship Fund at Hiwassee College, 225 Hiwassee College Drive, Madisonville, TN, 37354. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 2pm in the Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 W. Adair Dr. Knoxville, TN, 37918. An interment service will follow in the Lynnhurst Cemetery.
