Martha Almeda Ireland

Ireland, Martha Johnson, born on Easter Sunday, April 20, 1919 in Chattanooga to Maude & Thomas Jefferson Johnson, died peacefully at her home on January 19. Preceded in death by parents, sister, Mary Nell Mathis and husband of 54 years, Hansel Ireland. Active in Third Creek Garden Club and Home Demonstration Club in 1960’s and 70’s. Sunday School teacher and Department Superintendent for Junior Department and 9 year old girls Sunday School Class at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church. Charter member of Cumberland Baptist Church where she continued working in the Junior Department as Superintendent and teacher. Member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church since 1975. Retired in 1979 as a legal secretary with Fowler-Rountree Legal firm. After retirement, she became very involved in the Hemerocallis Society along with her husband, Hansel. She used her skills obtained in the garden club to create arrangements used in the shows they attended.

Survived by Daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Paul Doty of Halls, TN; Son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Carole Ireland of Louisville, TN; Grandchildren: Allison Oran, Spencer Ridge, Robin McCarter, Stacey Ridge, Angie Thomas; Great-grandchildren: Brittany Ortiz, Tiffany McCarter, Haley Summers, Aliddia Ridge, Storm Ridge, Logan Thomas and Lexi Oran; Great-great grandchildren, Shaylie Ortiz, Mason Chisenhall, Treyton Chisenhall and Conner Carter. And by dear and devoted friend, Delores Dale.

Family and friends will meet Monday at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel at 9:30 am for a 10:00 am graveside service. Honorary pallbearers: Spencer Ridge, Stacey Ridge and Tony Oran.
