
Peggy Josephine Shipe Monger, age 88, of Farragut, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Peggy was born July 3, 1933. She began her formal education at Ritta School in Knox County, attended Central High School where she met her future husband of years, Paul Boyd Monger. Peggy obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics, Masters of Science in Education, and Masters of Science in Library Science- all from the University of Tennessee. She then obtained her Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Nashville School of Law. Peggy worked as a classroom teacher and then school Librarian in Knox County Schools for 31 years. After retirement, she practiced law with Mary Langworth, Attorney, in Louden, TN until 2009.
Peggy grew up in Washington Presbyterian Church but has been a member of Farragut Presbyterian Church since 2003, where she served as an usher, on Chancel Guild, Pastoral Care Committee, "Share the Care", and Sewing Sisters. She was a Charter member of First Families of Tennessee.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul B. Monger; parents, Charles Edgar and Lydia Katie Miller Shipe; son-in-law, James A. Matlock, Jr.; brother, James Edgar Shipe and sister-in-law, Bobby Jean Shipe. She is survived by daughters, Elizabeth Susan Monger Matlock and Patricia Kathryn Monger Ricker and son-in-law, Jim Ricker; granddaughter, Lindsey Michelle Ricker; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry Miller Shipe and Peggy Jane Shipe of Rutledge; sister, Lydia Sue Shipe Whittle of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews.
A private interment will take place at Lynnhurst Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Farragut Presbyterian Church, 209 Jamestowne Blvd, Knoxville, TN 37934, Humane Society, 6717 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919 or a charity of your choice.
