Raymond W. Ogle Jr.

Ogle, Jr., Raymond William, age 90, went to be with Jesus on Monday, September 26, 2011. He was a Christian and member of the Baptist faith until his death. Fondly known as “Junior”, he was loved and respected by many friends and family. He was generous to all giving of his time and possessions. He enjoyed the art of conversation and always took the time to talk to those he encountered. He loved God’s earth and found his passion in gardening and farming. His farm on Millertown Pike was known for its prestige and beauty and roaming cattle. 2 Corinthians 9:7 describes his character “God loves a cheerful giver”. Ray worked as a district freight agent for the Southern Railroad System for 42 years and retired in 1982. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1944 – 1946. Stationed in Europe, he was honored with two bronze stars. He was also honored by the Kiawanis Club of Knoxville for his dedication to youth work in his area. He was active and instrumental in youth sports with the Holston Chilhowee football program, a graduate of Old Knox High School in 1939 and a lifetime resident of the Burlington community in East Knoxville. Preceded in death by parents, Mildred Florence Ogle and Raymond William Ogle, Sr.

Survived by loving cousins; Thomas Joseph Slack, Sr., Col. Richard Slack, Thomas Joseph Slack, Jr., Robert Foster Slack, Steven Alec Slack, Gregory Edward Slack and Cindy Gross Lawson. He leaves a legacy of family and friends that will miss him daily.
