

Ivey, Ruth Bates, age 81, of Knoxville, passed away January 24, 2013 at home surrounded by her family. Ruth never met a stranger. She created a life full of love and laughter for everyone around her. Her daughters were her joy and delight, and her granddaughter was her pride and joy. Ruth was one of ten children born to John & Grace Bates. Preceded in death by parents and 8 brothers and sisters. Survived by husband of 62 years: Jack Ivey. Daughters: Pamela Ivey Underwood (Roger), Trina Ivey. Granddaughter: Ashley Underwood Huffaker (Rob). Great-Grandson: Peyton James Huffaker. Sister: Wilma Bates Jones (Vencent) and several nieces and nephews, and two grand dogs, Rocky and Whitley. She retired from Standard Knitting Mills and J.C. Penney Department Store and worked UT Sports and Event Parking. Member of Greenway Baptist Church and the Golden Circle Sunday School Class. Where she enjoyed singing in the choir and keeping children in the nursery. The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 pm Sunday with the funeral service to follow at 4 pm in the Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel with Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating.
