Shirley M. Christie

Mrs. Shirley Murphy Christie, 93, passed into the Lord’s loving embrace on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at her home of the last two years in Dandridge, Tennessee. Born on November 21, 1931, she was the only child of the late Mr. H.E. and Mrs. Doris Colee Murphy. She was a lifelong resident of Tampa, Florida and retired from GE after many years of service as a secretary.

Mrs. Christie revered in the love and laughter that accompanied being the matriarch of an impressively large family – her lakeside residence in Odessa, FL served for many decades as the focal point and foundation for countless memorable festivities and family traditions. During her long and full life, she was an avid water skier early on, bowling enthusiast later, and enjoyed travelling extensively to visit with her family throughout. An enthusiastic Tampa Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Rays fan, Mrs. Christie enjoyed every opportunity to watch them play. She faithfully served her family and friends as a pillar of care and the epicenter of any party.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Mr. Gordon “Chris” Christie. She is survived by her three devoted daughters, Mrs. Cathy Church (Larry) of South Carolina, Mrs. Debra Mohr (Howard) of Florida, and Mrs. Doris Justice (Bill) of Tennessee. She is also survived by her lifelong best friend and cousin, Mrs. Ann Stone. Left to reverently remember their “Bad Ass Granny” are her twelve grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. All of whom will miss her answering their calls with, “Hey, Babe,” and imparting her wisdom and unfailing support to them as she was able.
