Jean Stitt, age 88, of Corryton, Tennessee passed away on June 11, 2025, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Jean was born in Opelika, Alabama and raised in LaGrange, Georgia. She married her beloved husband David in 1953, and they moved to Orlando, Florida a few years later where they spent the next several decades. Jean worked for several years in photo finishing with Kodak, and after retiring, they returned to the LaGrange area. About three years ago, they moved to Corryton and enjoyed the Tennessee mountains and even cheered for the Vols!
Jean was very creative and resourceful, and she loved to cook, sew, garden, make crafts, and do craft shows with David. She also loved spending time with family, playing cards and board games, and pampering her dog, Monroe. She grew up around music and that love of music was passed to all her sons, grandkids, and great grandkids. She especially loved when everyone would play instruments and sing at family gatherings. Above all, Jean loved the Lord and served Him and others in so many ways. Even during this past year’s illness, she spent time making bears for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. She was always thinking of others.
Jean was an active member at Faith Baptist Church in LaGrange before moving to Tennessee. Jean was able to attend Corryton Church services and community groups some before getting too ill, but she never failed to watch it online. She also loved catching a glimpse of her son and grandsons playing music at church.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of almost 71 years (and sweethearts since the 6th grade) David Crockett Stitt; mother, Luetta Johnson Traylor, and father, Raymond Franklin Traylor. She is survived by sons, Ricky (Von), Michael (Meg), and Kipper (Cindy) Stitt; grandchildren, David Stitt, Kimberly (Shawn) Beaver, Brandon (Megan) Stitt, Amanda (Jonathon) Moore, Caden Stitt, and Duncan Stitt; great grandchildren, Chandler, Samuel (Ayla), Bailey, and Noah Beaver, and Avery, River, Sierra, Leah, and Naomi Jean Stitt.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 14th from 1-2pm with the funeral service at 2pm at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home with Pastor Shawn Beaver of Boulevard Chapel in Kannapolis, North Carolina officiating. A committal service will immediately follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery, 2300 Adair Dr, Knoxville, TN 37918.
