The most important parts of David’s life were his beloved, late wife, Blanche, and transporting children to school safely. His greatest joy later in life came when his former students recognized him and chatted a bit. He was always so pleased to see how they had grown up.
David, son of the late William David Carver, Sr. and Ora Mae Carver, was born on December 3, 1944, and raised in Knoxville. David had one half sister, three half brothers, an aunt, an uncle and three nieces. As a small child, he remembered his dad pulling him in a little wagon down Gay Street to get his haircut. David began working at an early age with his mother selling newspapers on Gay Street. He later had a paper route with his wife, Blanche.
Then David found his calling driving a school bus. He drove several routes over the years to many fine schools. The route he cherished most was his daily route to Inskip School and Gresham Middle. David drove that route over 30 years. It brought him much joy. He loved driving for school field trips because he could get more interaction with the children he so loved.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gresham Middle School in memory of David Carver.
