Vaughn, William W., passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2015. Bill had a running gun-battle with cancer, and the cancer won. He has departed the beautiful hills of East Tennessee for parts unknown. There he hopes to find plenty of cats, American flags and an ample supply of dark chocolate. Bill was a man of small stature with a large heart. He feared few things, including death. Graduating from East High School in 1955, he played football and served as captain of the track team as a senior. He graduated from Mercer College of Pharmacy in Atlanta in 1961. He was a member of the professional fraternity Phi Delta Chi, serving as president his senior year. Bill owned and operated Vaughn Pharmacy in Powell for over 20 years serving the people of the community to the best of his ability. He loved sports, playing racquetball, tennis and golf. Hobbies included gardening, twice serving as president of the men’s Garden Club of Knoxville. He also enjoyed woodcarving and photography having won several ribbons at the Dogwood Arts Festival. Bill spent the last few years of life singing lead with the Smoky Land Sound Barbershop chorus. Great fun with great guys! He leaves Pat, his wife of 55 years, the absolute love of his life. He fell in love with her the first time he laid eyes on her almost 60 years ago. Bill leaves two wonderful children and their spouses: Son Jim and daughter-in-law Christina and daughter Lee Ann and son-in-law Jason Carter. A more proud father cannot be found anywhere! He also leaves his granddaughter Heather who has achieved much through sheer determination and special family members of his late brother-in-law, Jim Carroll, wife Dorothy and daughter Bridget. Bill loved his country as much as he possibly could; saddened by the direction America is going. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Wounded Warriors. Please dig deep.
