It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alicia Rivera Gomez, age 75, who peacefully entered eternal rest on Monday, January 27, 2025, at her home in Harlingen, Texas. Alicia was born in Arkansas on December 4, 1949, to Pedro and Guadalupe Rivera. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, wife, and mother, whose love for family, faith, and life will forever be cherished.
Alicia is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Yvette Gomez, who was her pride and joy, as well as her siblings Felipe, Placida, Teresa, Robert, Gilbert, Daniel, and Blanca, along with her many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Alicia was a woman of remarkable strength, compassion, and faith. Her life was defined by her love for God, her daughter, and her dogs (Chiquito, Monster, Logan, and Scarlet), as well as her passion for learning. Alicia’s journey began as a migrant farmworker, where she developed a strong-willed determination to create a better life for her family. Her integrity, wisdom, and relentless pursuit of education led her to a successful career as an accountant for Walmart in the 1990s. A lifelong learner, she always believed that with God’s guidance and a solid education, one could achieve great things.
Her words of encouragement and wisdom uplifted many, reminding everyone to pray, aim high, and never stop striving for excellence. In celebration of Alicia’s radiant spirit and the joy she brought to so many, we invite you to honor her memory by wearing light colors to the celebration of life service. Her vibrant love of life, as seen through her favorite colors of green, yellow, and white, reflect the warmth, brightness, and growth she shared with everyone around her.
Alicia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Luz R. Gomez, Jr., her parents, Pedro and Guadalupe Rivera, and her siblings Ernesto, Lupita, Pete, and Albert. Though she is no longer with us, her hard work, unwavering dedication, and love will be forever remembered. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Valley Memorial Gardens, located at 3611 N. Taylor Road in Mission, Texas. A blessing and burial of ashes will follow the service.
