Arlene Fultz Gray, 82, passed away May 1, 2025, in her daughter’s company at Harlingen Medical Center. She was born January 1, 1943, in Harlingen, Texas. She and twin sister, Darlene, were the first recorded New Year’s Day twins born at Valley Baptist Hospital.
A life-long resident of Harlingen, Texas, she graduated from Harlingen High School in 1961 and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Professionally, Arlene had a long career working at Rio Grande Oil Mill for over 22 years and retired from Varmicon Industries, also in Harlingen, Texas.
Arlene was known for her love of animals, especially cats, as she was eager to be a friend or helper to strays. She was an affectionate person to those close to her, and she was recognized as a “toucher.” She never let an opportunity go by while passing a friend to make contact or to touch someone on the shoulder or arm while in conversation. Arlene never met a stranger and had deep affection for people, always putting others first.
Arlene was preceded in death by her father, Lonnie H. Fultz, her mother, Cora Reed Fultz, twin sister Darlene Goodley, and nephews Lance and Lynn Nordhaugen.
Left to treasure her memory is her daughter, Martie Ann Gray, her brother, Kenneth (Ruth) Fultz, and sister Wanda Fultz.
A memorial service will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Harlingen on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local animal shelter/rescue.
